That sounds like a normal Monday night for Batman.

He doesn't kill people, but he does like watching people get killed.

Valiant re-imagining the Unity series:

http://valiantuniverse.com/2013/08/0...t-in-november/

This just makes me sad that they don't own Solar and Magnus. Sad in my pants.

I'm reading all of the new Valiant stuff now, the one I am least into is Shadowman. Great art, decent story, just not really engaging me I guess. Bloodshot it a surprise. I fully expected not to be into that and I actually really am.

This probably isn't what this thread is for, but I was hoping some of the more seasoned comic vets might be able to help me out.
Here's the thing, I read a metric fuckton of comics as a kid, mostly Marvel, X-men, Spidey etc, but haven't touched one since I was about 11 or so.
I want to get back into it, and I think if I am not mistaken Marvel did a complete reboot a year or two ago, so my question to you fine gentlemen is, where do I begin without being utterly confused about what went before, preferably Spidey or X-Men.
On a related note, after seeing the Dredd film I went on a nostalgia trip and started buying the Complete Case Files from Amazon, starting with the second volume (basically for Judge Cal), currently up to fifth (Apocalypse War). Good times.

Speaking of DC, I started reading volume 4 Wonder Woman, it's pretty badass I must say.

Was just randomly thinking about a couple indie comics that I loved that never really finished and now I'm annoyed. The Red Starwas fucking rad, but as far as I could tell they got derailed by worrying about other media(video game, supposed movie is still in the works) and it just petered out. Sucks, such a cool setting and they were some of the most gorgeous comics I've ever seen.

Other one wasArchaic. Very cool fantasy/steampunky sort of original comic. Good looking, cool story that just kept getting bigger. As far as I can tell it was the only comic that company(Fenickx) did and they are defunct.

I'm not some industry expert, but as far as I can tell there were not real big comic names on either book. Though Red Star obviously got a lot of attention(some of it was colored by Weta Workshop! A branch of the LOTR effects house), but I don't see names I recognize on it.

I didn't even know about the later books with Weta.

The original coloring/3D was "snakebite". he sticks by that pseudonym heavily. Uses it for his animation, tattoo, etc as well. Although early comic work I think was his real name.
He is super proud of The Red Star. And it did get alot of awards. One of the early pioneers in trying to blend 3d work, pencils and painted/matte coloring for comic work. This came out shortly after I started learning the craft/trying to get into the industry. I had the same idea, after having spent time with various concept artists. and wanted to bring this more traditional work into comics. He and others beat me to it though. I had to learn how to paint first. haha. this was in a time when cut and grad was super popular. Things like Dangergirl, or Wildcats would be prime examples. Also at the same time "liquid" was also gaining and hitting their prime. Known for the heavy use of gloss and specular highlights, to create eye candy. the driving force of "Liquid" was Christian Litchner. who left comics to go work for Blizzard as art directer on Diablo 3.

I don't remember the exact reason for The Red star petering out atm. Pretty sure he told me, but I don't remember. Snakebite moved on to animation and his tattoo work mostly. He did backgrounds for GI:Resolute for example. (With Dave Johnson on pencils)

One of his websites if you are curious.

I was stupid psyched to seeBoneyard by Richard Mooreback on the racks when I visited the comic book store last week. One of my favorite series in the past 10 years or so. Snatched the last copy up and promptly added it to my pull list again.

For fucks sake DC.

"Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series. We were told to ditch plans for Killer Croc's origins; forced to drastically alter the original ending of our current arc, which would have defined Batwoman's heroic future in bold new ways; and, most crushingly, prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married. All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end."

Seriously, how has DC not just spontaneously combusted? When you have a page dedicated to the stupid shit you're doing, maybe that oughta be a message.

As a follow up to this: These guys wrote up and I guess finished issues 24 and 25, issue 24 being a cliffhanger and 25 being the resolution to their story arc. DC has decided to go ahead and just turn the book to the new team at 25, and throw out the old teams issue 25.

While I don't enjoy all of Marvel's comics and get disappointed in some of the stuff getting canceled (Scarlet Spider & Venom, nuuuuu!), DC just boggles my damn mind how they don't burn their own building down with themselves locked inside some days.

I gave up on DC with that "New 52!" shit, they never let me go long without reminding me that I made a good choice.

for those who like good stories:

lock & key is on it's final issue.

this series was started in 2008, here's the amazon link to the first 5 volumes
http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Hill/e/B00...9316949&sr=8-6

if you search on google for lock & key you'll get some woman writer

one thing i didn't know, the writer is stephen kings son. Series is good, it's about a family, bad things happen and they move back home to the "family estate" take it from there.

i'm talking about it now cuz the last issue (this week the second to last one) is gonna be released soon and as i said it's a 5 year run, 6 issues a year, it's good you can get the 5 volumes and get caught up to volume 6 when it releases or just goto shops and find the collected alpha and omega.

very few titles are good, start and end. I mean do we really want to see peter parker who should be chronologically 66?
