true, but the linux install i did last year, so relatively recent, just have to redo the usb enclosure (i have an empty ssd enclosure too i just have to find the damn thing) and plug it in, the notebook is just in the basement in the case.

might wait until AFTER vacation though, i have to prep the minivan(clean the back), pack for 5 days (going for 11 days(31st thru the 11th with the wife and 3 kids-ROAD TRIP!-VACATION STYLE-just no station wagon, or aunt to die....) buuut, gonna do laundry at the hotel day 6) so lots to do before saturday night (plus i have an massage saturday i am going to get (normal one)

This is where we discuss troubleshooting our computers and bitch about family members wanting us to fix their magical facebook machines.

I am preparing to convert my Windows 7 Home system to Windows 10 Pro. I purchased the Windows 10 disc so I can wipe the system clean and do a fresh install instead of an upgrade. The hardware will support Windows 10 (Intel i7 based system). Any words of wisdom from those of you who have been through this? What tweaks do you recommend I do to Windows 10 after the install? Thanks!

Guys a long time ago I broke off my headphone input in the front of my computer. How do I get it out?
Solder a small metal piece to it if you have a solder gun. Otherwise if you have some strong epoxy or other form of glue try that.

In a pinch you could use a very tiny drill bit or self tapping screw, drill a little into the piece, and then try to pull it out. This is a lot more of a pain in the ass so don't try it if you have unsteady hands.

Edit: I also forgot, some plugs (like RCA and shit) have a core of plastic in the middle of them. Check if yours does and you can heat up a pin or paperclip, slide into the core, then let it cool and dry then try to pull it out.

This is going to be a weird question, and probably not one that is actually fixable due to admin rights.

At work for the past week, if I go to YouTube it runs like absolute shit. It'll lock up for about 10-30 seconds, and then usually do the "Error loading video" screen. Reloading the page is 50/50 on whether the video loads the next time.

But embedded videos, like on this board, work just fine. So I imagine there's someone running in the background of YouTube videos that's crushing my browser. I'm limited to IE10 right now, although it sounds like we might be getting Firefox in a few weeks.

Anyone got ideas of settings I might be able to change, or what's causing it? It's fucking annoying that I can't watch YouTube at work. How will I kill my day without it?

For IE10 its usually an audio issue cuz flash, try flushing your sound, click on speaker icon/speakers/advanced/default format, just "test" a few of those will release the sound

If that doesn't work, are you using USB headphones? do you have anything plugged into the audio jack? IE10 has a weird issue where you need to have something plugged into the audio jack.

Headphones in jack. I'll try the speaker thing tomorrow. Thanks.

If not, no big deal. I probably should "work" anyway.

My computer has become sentient. How do I go about letting it know, softly, that it's just a tool (mainly porn) that I use?

Point it at MMORPG.com and let it go. It'll die enough on the inside that you'll have complete control again within minutes. Enjoy.

If you mean the Flash player, YouTube dumped that some time ago in favor of HTML5.

Send it to the military. Tell it that it's hurting you a whole lot more than it's hurting it. Tell it it needs to learn how to be a computer, and respect it's owner.
