Draegtard- "Wanna buy my site?"
Craig- "How much"
Draegtard- "a lot since it has a strong user base and lots of content"
Craig- "Sounds like a deal!"
Come to think of it, is a_skeleton_03 exposed to any liability if we injected the scraped data into this site?
Yea, that's a very good point. With the online footprint we created for that domain, it probably is worth 7k+ to him even with the entire community leaving. If they can create new content for it within the next 6 months, that could still end up being a relatively good deal for them in the long run. That's a big IF though, and that's probably why he still preferred to let it go. They'll have to throw more money into it, but the domain name is a great one for a tabletop site, all things considered.Thing is they're thinking about turning rerollled.org into a TABLETOP GAMING site.
Now before you laugh, fact is "Rerolled.org" is an EXCELLENT domain name for a site dedicated to pen-and-paper gaming. And considering how much they'd have to pay for a squatted domain like "tabletop.com" or "penandpaper.com" or whatever, they prolly lucked out with paying 21k+ for rerolled.org.
admin on that place said:Yep - we purchased this site a couple months back. However the price was NOT $20,000
It was a giant mistake. The numbers actually were great at 1.5 million page views per month - however the sellers did not really disclose that they were more or less hosting a community on this domain that would just pack up and leave if someone else took ownership.
Of course we knew it was a community forum. What we did not know was that if the ownership changed they would move elsewhere. How could we have known that would happen?
Prior to this happening it was a solid investment and was on track to pay itself off in a year or so (again it was not $20k like the OP stated).
From what I've read on that link, MMORPG.com saved that site, and didn't intend to change anything to it except link it in ad banners. To thank them, that "great" community screwed them big time.
Seems like that "great" community should have been left dying. They didn't deserve that investment.
