Why do you care if there are/aren't nameplates if you plan to be hiding in holes half the time?

Because I want my name to mean something. I'm the cracked staff king dude. not some <a guinea dumb piece of shit no one cares about>

If nameplates are out I'll pull my donation.
Which is exactly why they'll be non-committal on everything until at least the KS is over

In reality too, though - in software, nothing here is set in stone, and it's all open for change. We like to talk about what they will/won't do, but the point is, they don't know, and they won't know, until after a lot of alpha and beta testing in the years to come. Then they'll take the feedback, the real data, and adjust based on it.

So, I'm not very familiar with Kickstarter, but based on our trajectory, is it likely we'll get to 1.3 million? I know I've heard there's usually a big drop off after the first few days until the last few days.

This is the gamble you take when you crowd fund an MMO. They are going to be winsocks to get as much money as they can and not commit to anything.

I'm not a huge PVP player, but I enjoy it from time to time, and don't really care either way.

I can understand the appeal of nameplates for reputation, and rivalries etc...

On the other side, nameplates make it easy to know who the sheeps and wolves are...allowing the wolves to target sheeps and avoid the other wolves.

For all the people that do enjoy a challenge, my personal experience has always been that people will seek out easy targets...nameplates make that easy to do.

Not saying one is better than the other, but there are valid arguments for both sides.

It also alows the sheep to avoid the wolves easier. Unless the sheep are just terrible, in which case they're going to hate this game regardless of the nameplate situation.

The wolves won't play a game made for sheep.

Sheep are meant to be herded. Not Heard. Because all they say is BAAAAAAAAAAAA

Note that they're still in the, "Let's not cross anything off the table so we can get as much money as possible from our target audience.". Saying, "I've got no problem with nameplates, but others on the development team do" could be, "Yeah no nameplates is a retarded idea but there's a lot of retards on our forums right now."
I'm thinking your right on this. Lets not upset an apple cart thing.

The wolves also won't play a game without sheep to kill.

Again my personal opinion, but guild like PRX who enjoy a good PVP fight, even if they lose once in a while are the vast minority. Most guilds play to win, and will bail if they start losing, or collapse as their member go to bigger and better guilds.

The thing is, there are still some guild like PRX, the question is whether there are enough of them to keep a game afloat. Crowfall is supposed to be a niche game...and if they truly are they should say fuck it, and do nameplates.

I personally think that given their vision they should go for it.

The one thing they probably will know at some point is who is funding their game, they said I believe that the kickstarter account will be linked to the crowfall forum account...what happens if the majority of their funding comes from the sheep? What should they do at that point?

Who wants to live in a world where sheep and wolves look the same? If you don't want to be eaten like a sheep, become a wolf.

We aren't asking for something as obnoxious as that.

name broadcast on zone in to everyone in zone. Global across all servers name broadcast on death so everyone knows you suck.
People are going to know you suck either way man.

@Valderen I agree with your whole post - the nameplates don't make sheep sheep, they do that themselves regardless of what's above their heads.

The point is, if you have other things in place you don't technically HAVE to have nameplates but you better have a damn good reason for it and those other systems better be functional.

Nameplates, I like the way PS2 handles it. You want them to know your name, that's fine. Death messages or target call outs get that done. What I dont want it a big red sign over my head everywhere and all the time, and looking from the other side if all you see is a sea of nameplates rushing at you nobody will take the time to be extra scared because one of them is a known name. If the game has combat chat show the name there, show a death summary, but dont make every player visible at draw distance with a big fat name tag. Doesnt matter if it says Big Flex <DYEL> or A_centaur_scout.

TLDR: against always-on nameplates, also against anonymity.

I does't have to be name plates per se, like someones else mentioned, you don't have name plates in TF2 but you sure as hell know who killed you as do everyone else. This creates a rivalry that I believe makes a game much more enjoyable and also intense.

I remember a time on Sullon Zek that me and this monk whith his new 2.0 fought over the hole for months. Everyday I would camp there and sure as hell this decked out monk would come in and train me. I was a Sk so I would reverse train him and HT him but man we hated each other.

I would have never given a rats ass about him if he was annon. Many times I was on an alt, id see him pop into the hole and leave seeing that I was not there to battle. That's the stuff that I remember, not some zerg with nameless faces for server #6.

I'll up my pledge if they do the nameplates like Planetside 2 - ie: targeted callouts make nameplates visible. Death messages in the local vicinity. Friendly nameplates always on or on mouseover/option toggled.

My guess is 2 million. But it depends on them now. I feel like their target audience generally knows and likes the ideas in the game. They'll have to do a few things:
1. Avoid pissing off their market (Ex: Don't commit to anything like nameplates!).
2. Monetize the rewards by putting out rewards that people really want. My recommendation is to sell EK benefits like hotcakes.
3. Put out stretch goals that people want. Mounts are a given. I could see myself kicking in more money if it made the difference to get a few important PvP features in the game. Certain class/archetypes are compelling. Frankly most stretch goals to me seem superfluous, I wish they'd have a stretch goal called, "Actually have a QA team test the game before releasing alpha" or, "Actually buy enough server space to support release." or, "Pay for community service before the queue times for getting unbanned over false bannings is larger than a month."

I'm surprised they're ready to commit to telegraphs faster than they are functional nameplates to be honest.
