Just like Shadowbane, hey dont get me wrong I am cool with or without name tags. PS2 does a great job.... I would rather they remove the fucktard telegraph shit over having or not having name tags.

name broadcast on zone in to everyone in zone. Global across all servers name broadcast on death so everyone knows you suck.

Nameplates, I like the way PS2 handles it. You want them to know your name, that's fine. Death messages or target call outs get that done. What I dont want it a big red sign over my head everywhere and all the time, and looking from the other side if all you see is a sea of nameplates rushing at you nobody will take the time to be extra scared because one of them is a known name. If the game has combat chat show the name there, show a death summary, but dont make every player visible at draw distance with a big fat name tag. Doesnt matter if it says Big Flex <DYEL> or A_centaur_scout.

TLDR: against always-on nameplates, also against anonymity.
This is a good point.
Stealth, etc. Giant red bars and names destroy any option for using cameo or any ingame means of stealth, sneaking around, etc, that is not pure hard coded invisibility.

See 5 people fighting in the distance. without bars, you probably can't tell who they are, and how many are on your side.
With bars, well its obvious, its a 3v2.

DAoC did nameplates right. It showed your " Race Realm Rank" but if you killed Bob it showed that "Nightmare killed Bob in Zone". This added a whole other layer to PvP. For example; I as a mercenary could carry a shield and make myself look like a cleric so all the dumb stealthers would get surprise buttsecked when they attempted to gank. You still knew who killed you in the end, and if players were good they had high realm ranks so you always knew who was really dangerous but you still that anonymity.

I think they knew it was necessary to show combat for the Kickstarter, no matter what incomplete state it was in. They almost immediately said it was going to be different than seen in the video.

Also I don't particularly think the Sheep vs Wolves is fully encompassing the pvp market.
It's more like Hunters - Sheep - Wolves.

Hunters herd the sheep and protect them from the wolves. And protect/claim territory from other hunters.

How is anyone supposed to know who is who without some form of identifier?

Daoc didn't have FFA pvp with friendly fire as it's opening content pitch.

No one "here" is questioning the need for an identifier. There just seems to be camps of people who say the ONLY identifier is nameplates which just isn't true but it's probably the easiest method to implement, unless you're Zenimax.

I think people here are forgetting that their primary content focus right now is FFA PVP - not Green red blue pvp.

Them on the fence with some form of nameplates when their focus is FFA pvp makes me question their judgement greatly.

As long as there is a relatively easy way to identify both players beforeandafter a kill, I don't care if it's nameplates or not. I just want a method of identification and nameplates seems easiest. I can see the arguments for finding an alternative means of ID though.

I don't know that I agree that folks here want Green, Red, Blue pvp. I just see nameplates as being nothing more than a visual cue that can be flipped on/off and while I agree identification is a functional necessity of any FFA PVP game, I think their focus should be on making sure that the foundational objectives of the campaigns are sound, fluidity of combat feels right, being in the world and fighting needs to mean something and make sense, etc. Those seem like a higher priority to me but I'm not a dev so I just don't know.

Non-committal answers to specific questions like this during a Kickstarter are just rare anyway, especially at this stage.

Really ? Coleman and wolfpack created one of, if not the best, pvp experiences in a mmorpg ever seen. I would nutcup him if crowfall is 75% of what shadowbane was, minus the sb.exe, dups, etc of course.I wouldnt worry so much over their judgement when it comes to developing a pvp game let alone rage quit because you cant see nameplate BIGDICKFIVE (GUILD YOUR MOMMA) hiding behind a rock. lol wtf man...

Dev post on property protection.

:emoji_nose:Quote of random noob: The Bloodstone ruleset is even in the Crowfall FAQs, and is interesting with possible flaws.

That being said, this thread goes beyond a single ruleset. This could be a big deal to a fair number of people.:emoji_nose:

Just to be clear here; When it comes to sieges we are approaching the design (and all various forms of the design) with ways to prevent what you are worried about.

Nobody want's to log in each morning to see all the keeps and castles in the land have been taken by someone else. You'll pretty much always have the chance to respond to an aggressor. Whether you want to, is another thing entirely.

I'm not going to blindly follow these guys with my wallet open, I'm not going to nutcup them either.

Again, I'm not asking to be able to see an identifier behind a rock.

hunters?

Imagine if there was something that herds sheep and fights wolves...

To them you are right, to me, I want to be known as a skilled player, for people to fear me when I enter an area. To see chat filters light up as everyone flees. I also want know who killed me and how the hell did he get the jump on me. I need this. Period.

Yeah, I remember when people used to say this about Jacobs and Barnett regarding WAR. The most watered down pvp ever?

ok sure, but did you play Shadowbane ? I must be in the minority but Coleman created a world where I enjoyed the best guild vs guild / city-nation building / open pvp mmorpg experience to date. I just find it laughable people would question his judgement in developing a pvp game.
