How many new players looking at the KS are going to pledge when they see FFA as the primary gametype being worked on?

KS funding slowed down drastically after the stretch goal focus was announced to be Female horses and Shiny weapons.

I get the modular nature of the gametypes, I like FFA more than all the other stuff, but most people don't.

Not even mentioning Faction or Guild/Alliance PVP structure on the KS tier 1 stretch goal is just devastating for their buzz/hype/growth.

Make an addendum for weekly pvp dev updates with Draegan on the KS tier and call it a day. Where are we at with property protection? Where are we at with factions and guilds and friendly fire? Where are we at with resources and economy? All of that is RIPE conversation.

Saying I don't know to those subjects and then holding your hand out for more money is just stupid

A bigger shock to me is that mounts and caravans are a stretch goal. That can have such a huge impact on game design, seems like it should either be in, or not be in.
I think the initial million dollars of stretch goals will be things that are critical to the game to help motivate people to buy in. Plus with only a 800k minimum it is reasonable to have a pared down feature set.

That really surprised me too. Only planning for Dregs for the KS money is a bummer. I assume they felt the other types needed a lot more coding work to be done, and they didn't want to increase the base funding limit.

I would (like all of us, I suppose) like some more info from them at least on what kind of Dregs campaigns they're currently envisioning. And given that King of the Hill, one winner, for an entire campaign is obviously stupid and asinine and that is no way what they're doing (unless it's a duration of a day or something), there's obviously more to it. There has to be some sort of recognition of guilds/groups/factions/etc. Then given that, then what will make it different from the outer realms? Just that there's no FF enabled or something?

I'm fine with them getting Dregs right first then modularly adding in target/faction differentials for the other playsets. Just (for fucks sake) keep the KS community in the loop EARLY on about what and how this stuff is connecting to the other play styles.

Don't expect new consumers and would be pledgers to assume that all your FFA development is going to be "Knob tunable" for other rulesets. You need to force feed that idea constantly to new people.

Evaporating money if you don't.

I glanced at the official forums, and there's tons of threads there. Has noone asked for some more concrete examples/ideas of what exactly a Dregs campaign would look like? Or have they, and ArtCraft just hasn't responded?

I saw they had Euro servers, including localization most likely, by the way.

Draegan asked in the interview and was met with a prompt "I don't know yet"

A million dollars going to "I don't know, but it looks cool"

I sincerely hope they aren't focusing their design directions on the general population of their official forums. Every weaboo neckbeard on the planet is going crazy for a no-pants Femtaur over there.

This is why being open with your customer at this stage is bad. They're like ravenous hounds and as soon as you cut them off from information they don't really know yet they start turning on you.

Update on paypal and overseas stretch goals:

Posted Today, 06:36 PM

PayPal and overseas payments integration has taken longer than planned for our web team but is getting close. We wanted to make sure we could show the total raised as money comes in and have a stretch goal specific to this payment method focused on overseas territories.

We'll have it up, probably after we go over $1 million pledges on Kickstarter. Best estimate for PayPal payments going live right now is Friday morning.

We'll have the original early bird offers live for 24 hours after the PayPal link goes up, then switch to the current Kickstarter bundle pricing. We will do an announcement on Crowfall.com when PayPal goes live.

Pricing will be in USD but converted to your local currency. Shipping for the Collectors Edition box, on packages Amber and higher will be an additional $25 USD, converted. And of course your local taxes will be added to the purchase price.

Next week we will open up PayPal payments in North America also.

Thanks for supporting Crowfall! This will let us know what our overseas in general, and European in particular support levels are for the game. Many of you have said their friends were unable to back us on Kickstarter, so this should solve that problem.

If you were able to support us on Kickstarter already, please keep your pledge there! Losing momentum on Kickstarter is not something that helps Crowfall. If there are concerns about us making the separate PayPal stretch goals for overseas, we will be able to count your pledge post-Kickstarter against it, as we get all backer information then and will assume anyone overseas supports those stretch goals.

Stretch goal #1 for PayPal: $165k
Host servers in Europe for betas and launch
Localize the website/community in 6 languages (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian)
Hire another community manager to focus on our overseas communities

Ah man they should make the 2mil stretch goal a 13th archetype. I could see an Inquisitor/Bounty Hunter style archetype focused on anti-stealth being cool and super popular, since iirc they had a similar dynamic in Shadowbane.

I don't know too much about it or it's interactions with .net framework etc.

I do know however that Shroud of the Avatar is being made with Unity4 and it's controls are pretty fuckin bad. Input delay, sluggish character movement, etc. Not sure how much of that is a unity restriction.
That's not unity but terrible usage of it.

Wait, isn't SoA still in a pre alpha? It's weird judging game controls when in such a state. Regardless of what engine it is. At least wait till an open beta for shit like that.

I don't know, when you start taking money I think it's fair game. I paid for Landmark and feel OK calling it shit.
But they sold you an alpha and promised nothing. Even said its a true alpha and will be bad at times. That's why paying to test is just crazy lol. We are dumbasses

Control and feel is one of the most important things to gamers. How many times in the past have we heard that something is getting better and the next patch it will improve and then it launches with huge problems? We heard that line of bullshit constantly from the ESO fanboys.

When shit hits open beta, that's when I write off any real changes in the near future. Plenty can change from an alpha till then. Half the time combat isn't fully in. I haven't tried it so I can't speak on it. I actually think he's referring to camera angles or some shit?

I get that and I don't judge it as a final product. I think even taking that into consideration Landmark fails and continues to fail and will always fail. It missed any shot it had at being important.

No idea about SoA. I hear mixed things but if it's good at its core, I'd be OK with some fixable jank.

I get you. I just get real nervous when I see a game in any stage with delays and wonky ass combat. Too many broken promises.

Industry earned our skepticism. I don't believe in miracle patches either. From the interview, it sounds like they have a decent grasp on the controls. I know they lurk here too so I'm sure they are reading. I wish they'd take some of the posters and let them help test those areas now. May as well get as much feedback as possible.
