Bahahahahah. Sorry, but basically every 'hardcore' MMO that's come out in the last ten years has been utter trash with one notable exception. It's the designer's game to lose - EVE survives with your Islamofascist design standards mired in the 7th century, so clearly it can be done. Don't go blaming anyone but every shitheap dev team that has ever made an MMO.

They've been utter trash because they're poorly made games, not because no one wants to play a hard core MMO. If you make a solid game with hardcore features, you'd have a hit. Don't believe me, then you've never played Dark Souls.

I was responding to someone who said no one wants to play that kind of game, and that games only exist because they need to cater to the least common denominator of players. If you agree with me, then why the fuck did you quote my post?

I don't agree with you. It's not the fault of people who like different games that niche game devs can't get their shit together. Let's not blame the marketplace for the failure of shitty designers which somehow seem to keep getting money to make new failures.

Here is an idea. Let's see what they got and get a clear idea of the game they are making and give them a chance. The worst thing they can do is listen to the "does the game have cloaks" crowd. It all boils down to is the game fun. This game and no game in the future is going to have every single idea that any of us want. I bet the people making the game can't even agree on everything.

I agree. It doesn't really matter who the game caters to, as long as it's fun people will play it. My entire point is, the worst thing a company can do is try and listen to players and ask them what they want. You'll get a thousand different opinions and it will pull the game in too many directions. Make the game you want to make, and if it's done well people will play it, hardcore or not.

Hah. I've been posting on the official forums, and if you listen to the players there, they all pretty much just want Shadowbane with a graphical update. I didn't play Shadowbane, but it appears to have one of the most convoluted stat/character systems I've ever seen in an MMO.

I think you're right. They just need to stick with their VisionT and if it's a good game, it will speak for itself.

Yeah, I posted the exact same thing over there. It's no different than if you were making a movie, or opening a restaurant or whatever. Imagine trying to open a restaurant and asking everyone in the town what kind of food they wanted on the menu! Your best bet is to open the kind of restaurant you want, cook the kind of food you're passionate about, and if it's good, people will eat there.
