Please please please if the anyone connected to Crowfall is reading this thread, please make the guinea pig duelists make real guinea pig sounds in game. If they make sounds like the video below during attack animations or being hit that would make me soooo happy.

I thought the answer was clear, but in case it was not:

We WANT to make FF work. And we are willing to try find ways to make it work, for all servers.

But if it doesn't, then we may have to fallback to other ideas to discourage it on some rule sets, specifically the ones where players have less control on who joins their "team" (not just the FFA server).

and if THAT doesn't work, maybe it becomes another optional flag for all Campaigns (like the victory conditions.)

and if THAT doesn't work, may have to turn it off on some Campaigns or rulessets. To me, that's the option of last resort.

Our debates on how to solve this internally echo many of the points and concerns made here. But to be clear, our goal is to make it work.

FF will definitely make the mass PvP challenging. Wonder how collision and hit detection will work in Crowfall? Made me think of the Braveheart scene... (Jump to about 4:06)

Edit: more notes on FF rulesets:

I'm not entirely sure how you can read an FAQ that mentions the possibility of turning off friendly fire on 1 or 2 of the announced rulesets, and to you that translates to "only FFA has friendly fire".

Make no mistake, we'll be working and testing this area heavily and we'll find what works best for each campaign ruleset. We might find a way to execute it well on all of them, we may not.

It's best not to jump to hyperbolic conclusion's when we're being very forward and open with our thinking with you on this.
We'll see how well FF works during beta, but it's not going to be a problem for us if it exists.

C'mon vit don't you want to do formation training every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 EST.
I think it'd be more about spec groups or sub groups attacking a target simultaneously. All depends on the game mechanics though. Often the most critical spells in large scale PvP are the ones that developers don't anticipate being prominent.
 
Good to hear friendly fire is in. Cant have a well made pvp game without it.
FF doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now, you'd have to have spells arc over the melee in front of you. Otherwise there's no reason to have melee in front to protect the casters behind them. The other possibility is that you have very narrow windows to cast spells, which makes things even worse.

I'm also curious if having no targeting also helps improve gameplay by reducing lag in some way?

There's little reason for long distance damage casters to be caught in a choke behind their melee line. Instead they're usually somewhere advantagous like the ramparts or above the melee line functioning as artillery. Damage casters can hold chokes just fine too without a tank line in most games by spamming AE at doors and or stair wells.

Typically pet classes and support types are behind the tank line in a choke situation.

I want to love his game but I'm a PVE softy with MMOs. Here's to hoping there's enough there to make me happy.

I'd be good with a heavy dose of PVP if it's not shit. Maybe it's my fault, but I basically hate all MMO PVP that I've played.
