Come the fuck on, we all have different tastes and I'm not saying you should like this album but to call it 70's porn music is a bit much.
Once you cut out all the vocals/vocoder, it definitely sounds like a collage of 70s porn music to me. The funk influence just does little/nothing for me. There are a few "stand-out" tracks that sound good(Give Life Back to Music is the only "great" track, IMO), but this album fell seriously short for me. I'm going to give it a few more listens to see if it'll grow on me, but I'm not sure it will.

I can definitely understand people's complaints, for instance, I see no reason why motherboard should be 6 minutes long, it'd be a good transition track at 90-120seconds. It's got the funk without a lot of the hooks. Doin' It Right is my favorite so far, I love that track, but then again, it probably resembles Daft Punk a lot more than the rest of the album

They wanted to try something different and personally for what it is I think they did a pretty damn good job. None of it is really dance music is probably the biggest issue for people that are their fans. Maybe the remixes will give people what they want but as far as actually making music I'm digging it.

I wasn't expecting this kind of sound at all, but I'm really digging most the tracks. It's gonna make for a great soundtrack when working in the garage.

Instead of funk and disco influenced electronic music they made funk and disco music. I'm not blown away but it'll prob grow on me and I don't dislike it. The vibe reminds me of the new Justin Timberlake album which grew on me. The second track was the only one that I didn't really care for. I thought most of the rest was decent and dug the Panda Bear song and the last track.

I like it, I don't like every song, but there are several I really enjoy. Not a fan of The Game of Love, Lose Yourself to Dance, or Fragments of Time. Really like Touch, Doin' it Right, Contact. Need more listens for everything else but it mostly sounds good. Funny I actually heard Contact first as well, almost think it would have been a better start to the album.

Third time being said but, Daft Punk did go in on the interview with Pete Tong that a remix album is well on its way. Its also been stated in a article with a french magazine that they were trying to take a studio approach using real instruments, creating actual cords, and composing their own rhythms rather than going with the usual samples that they're known for. I think even in one of the collaboration episodes someone goes on the line saying something about not doing samples. Basically goaling out to make something that can be sampled, which upon listening there are a lot of really good loopable samples within the album. Like "Doin it Right" I honestly could listen to the intro sampled forever, around the world style.

/shrug I enjoy it for what it is, I like it a lot. Definitely was thrown back by the tempo of the entire album, Pharrell wasn't kidding about an album you'll listen to with your girl. The actual rhythms are really really good, even if they are mostly mellow. I feel I could probably go without the collabs, but Thomas never fails to amuse me.

Time to give it a real listen without being on the motorcycle

tl;dr
How i'd prefer the album;
Contact
Doin' it Right
Giorgio by Moroder
Lose yourself to Dance
Beyond
Give life back to Music

I like 'Give Life back to Music', 'Giorgio by Moroder', 'Lose yourself to Dance', 'Doin' it Right', 'Contact'.

Doin' it right sounds the most like other work by Daft Punk, Lose yourself to Dance is so damn funky/groovy.

This album sounds way different than any Daft Punk album they have done. But I think that's always been what they try to achieve. Gonna take a few listens but I like some aspects of it. It feels like getting transported to the late 70's or something. Pretty mellow/groovy/funky sounding.

I feel the same way. Those are pretty much the only songs I like.

Did they say they have already started on the remix album ? I have a feeling that album is going to be them sampling themselves off this record and making it more like the old Daft Punk.

bout all we know.
I'd hope they'd tried to incorporate some of tron, I don't know how it would go together. Spacey-vibes? I'm sure they could figure out, I just want a legitimate remix on Solar Sailor.

Dog shit compared to Homework, but let the media bandwagon ride off into the sunset.
haha no.

Homework was by far better but to even relate this new album to "dogshit" you'd have to be god damn brain dead.

edit: This so much better than Tron.

The more I listen, the more I love this album.

It isn't Discovery, but Discovery is the best electronic album ever made imo.

Part of the entertainment is reading all the pseudo-intellectual diarrhoea every music critic is throwing around this album. Kinda like how you can't trust game reviews until you hear people whose tastes you know talk about the game...
