Yeah the ash lake zone is definitely a 'secret level'. But it's one of the best zones in any game ever so the disjointedness can be forgiven.
I couldn't stand the hollow. I never made it to Ash Lake as a result. I kept dying to those fucking things that spew a curse at you and with three of them coming all at once after a branch I could never get passedd, I had had enough. It was a challenge with being cursed and half health getting from that area back up to the sewer to get a purging stone.

I fully admit I may have been doing it wrong.

Yup, the hollow level sucks and I think it stops a ton of people from getting to that zone. You get better at it as you get practice and stop falling off / getting cursed, but it never gets easy

It's worth it though. If you haven't gotten to Ash Lake your playthrough of dark souls is incomplete.

PC hands down. with the DSfix its way better looking

I would imagine there is a larger community as well, considering how often the game goes on sale.

Ok. I'll have to head back there when I go back to complete the Demon Ruins. Now that I have been through Blighttown I know my way around it, but the frame drops still hit me there.

Last night I went on a boss killing spree and was fairly happy with myself. I killed that Knight back in the Undead Asylum revisited and grabbed his shield, went to kill Moonlight Butterfly, got the key for Havel, killed Havel, and then took care of the Hydra. That Hydra was ridiculous. I got all the heads except the last one and kept falling of the water ledge. Somehow, by blind luck, I just charged and swung at the same time and nailed him. I was fist pumping for 30 minutes. Now I am stuck in Sen's Fortress - and I know what to do and where to go, it's just a matter now of not falling off anything or getting careless.

you people realize cursebite ring and you're next to immune to basilisks?
New Londo Ruins kicked my keester last time I was even close to the place. Shouldn't I finish Sen Fortress first before trying to get this ring? Or is it easily obtainable? I know it isn't a drop.

Playing without using spoilers, it's pretty likely that you encounter the Great Hollow way before you get that ring since it's in New Lando or something.... That said there are other ways to raise curse defense through armor... and maybe even consumables? I don't think I ever got cursed to death in the Great Hollow though.... I died several times going for some jumps/falls and also got one-shot'ed by a daddy mushroom... these pack a punch!

Heh, Londo is a nice farm area once you've got it down. Curse bite ring isn't too bad to get once you're past the steep learning curve. Onceyyou're past the 'bridge' and the first room beyond consistently its all laughably easy predrain.

My farming area of choice, no idea if it's the best one but as soon as I saw a dozen dumbass skeleton things 40 meters from a fire I knew I'd get some souls out of it. It's easy as fuck too. I watched a few hours of Louis CK standup during a farm and now whenever I hear Louis CK I think of Dark Souls.

I got into coldplay at exactly the time I started playing Shadowbane. Now Clocks and Yellow reminds me of farming elves, fighting legions of scrubs and destroying cities.

lindz I have it for both ps3 and PC... PC is 100x better. You could very well be the first woman to ever play the game.

PW is ideal but late to access comparatively. I'll farm Londo with a fresh char for the items there - nice bow, jagged blade, etc - not so much XP

Could you post a video of the farm you're referring to?

This was my farming spot once I had gotten there. Killed the two Royal Sentinels inside and then the ones that were right outside the door. Took a couple of minutes to kill them all then just use Homeward back to the fire and started all over again.
