According to our desktop up port and the interweb looks like the 850 too it is gambling you never know if York I'd good or bad. The 2 fixes they released havent fixed it. That is why work is only buying crucial right now.

There's no 850 EVO firmware problem that I can see anywhere on any site.

There was a corrupted firmware issue with the 850Prosshortly after launch, but any new ones have newer firmware than that.

the i5 4690k/i7 4790k just came out summer of 2014. But as far as a completely new leap in architecture or something, beyond the i3/i5/i7 line of processors...no clue.

Intel seems to be content with each new incremental upgrade of processor mainly being a decrease in power consumption, and improving the on-board video, but that's really about it for significant changes. We haven't seen any major leap-forward in clock speed in a long, long time. We've seemed to stall out around the 3.5-4ghz range for several years now.

I know the 5960k is not the greatest for gaming. I think you guys mentioned the 5930 (or whatever) being best for gaming?

Don't go anywhere near the 5960/5930 processors for gaming, they're crazy overkill, those are $500-$1000 processors.

For gaming, stick with the 47xx line(i7) or 46xx line(i5). 4790k is the go-to i7 processor, and 4670k is the go-to i5 gaming processor. The i7 will run you about $330 and the i5 is about $230 if you buy them online anywhere. Go to a microcenter store and you'll find both for about $30-50 less.

Those 59xx series processors are high-end 8-core processors meant for servers or professional graphic/rendering workstations, they'll have zero effect on gaming performance.

Exception: Triple or Quad SLI setups. You need the PCI lanes on the 5930k.

A 5820k has some advantages over a 4790k in a dual SLI setup. They do benchmark a significant amount better, and they're not that much more expensive. I mean the processors are the same price, but the motherboards are pretty expensive and DDR4 hasn't started coming down yet, but will soon.

The 5820K is still somewhat reasonably priced at like $380. Those 59xx series cards are WAY too expensive to use in a gaming machine/imo. You'd get much better performance gains for that extra money elsewhere (2nd GPU, etc). That 5930k is almost $600, and the 5960 is over $1000

Thanks for recommending that s5ean guy on reddit for the MS software. Smooth as silk transaction with btc and everything updated perfectly.

If you're willing to drive to a microcenter, a 5820k is only 299 there. Somehow.

Is EVGA still good with customer support? My GTX 660 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and I'm looking at one of their quiet 970 models. A base model with the two fans and not the blower model.

They're fine. They don't have lifetime warranties on most models anymore, but support is still pretty decent.

Ok, so on that note, I grabbed one. Vastly overkill for what I need, but the silence will be appreciated.

I guess I'll put the 660 in my ancient 750 box. There's an ATI in there now with some giant radiator fanless 4850 thing I put in there many years ago. Might be worth the cost of ship + $0 if anyone wants.

I'm still planning on RMAing my 670 before the warranty is up, in the hopes they send me a 770.
