What is your reasoning on going with a 760 instead of the 770 for 70 more?

I am interested as I am really considering just saving up for the 770 but maybe there is another reason to go 760 other than price.

If you are going for 1440p than yes 770 is better buy. But for the most part 760 is the price/performance choice for 1080p.

I just go by price. Evga is probably considered the best but even pny has a lifetime warranty now.
I used to think EVGA was the best but after going from an EVGA 8800 GTS to a Gigabyte 660 Ti to a EVGA 780 Ti, I'm not sure I agree. Perhaps I have a faulty card but from what I've read and been told by people who work on these things on a daily basis, EVGA has coil whine issues (and other cap issues) recently because they are using shitty caps. Could be wrong on all that but if I were to re-buy my 780 Ti I'd have stuck with Gigabyte. Maybe it's a fluke, who knows with these things.

Nothing wrong with going by price for the most part though.

Inductor coil whine and crappy caps aren't the same thing.

edit: Very audible whining from an electronic component are noisy inductor coils. There's nothing wrong with them other than the annoying whine.

^ right. Was in a rush writing this while working and put caps and not coils. Derp.

And yeah typically there isn't anything "wrong" with them but when you're spending $700-725 on a top-of-the-line card you'd expect the thing not to exhibit coil whine. I could RMA it but I'm fine just bitching about it and at least letting others be aware of it. It seems when I browsed EVGA's forums there was a higher number of 780 Ti's that had this issue.

Crappy components would be a let-down on a $100 component, and it's not at all kosher at that price range from that vendor. Is EVGA still good at getting parts swapped out very quickly? It's the only reason why I pick them over, say, Gigabyte or Asus.

I've heard their RMA has really fallen off the wagon too. Seems like they're getting too big and expanding into too much other shit for their own good - similar to Corsair.

Good question. I've not reached out to them due to being a lazy bastard nor have I done an RMA with them.

So I am way overdue for an upgrade to my desktop. The current PC I use is from 2005. I got it from my brother in like 2007 and even back then it struggled somewhat with WoW etc. I went to college, stopped playing computer games, and it did the job fine for school related stuff. I recently started playing some Diablo 3, and this thing definitely lags at times.

I don't know anything about building computers, so I don't think that is a smart way to go for me.

What do you all suggest as far as premade computers go? I was looking on Newegg, and it's really hard to tell how much better the $700 computers are from the $400 ones etc. I'm hoping to stay somewhere near that price range ($350-750ish) and get good bang for my buck.

seriously though, build your box. You'll have SO much more flexibility for upgrades, cost savings, and a bit of pride in knowing that you did it yourself... it's virtually idiot proof, and I guarantee that several here and on other sites would be happy to help (not to mention there are like 10 min youtube videos taking you through it from start to finish).

did you ever enjoy playing with legos? it's kinda like that, but with much fewer legos and much more payoff

Newegg has some videos on how to do it. The problem with pre built systems is that you can never get what you want. Its always some shitty package deal with crap you don't want or will want to replace right away.

I left out part 1 because its a bit outdated as to components, just ask here and well hook you up.

Does anyone have one of these? I'm getting tired of my MS4000 and want a standard mechanical in TKL.

Vengeance® K65 Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
If you want standard might need to look elsewhere. I could be wrong but I think the bottom modifier row is non-standard, especially the space bar. So if you ever need to replace key caps you're at the mercy of Corsair.

That said, it has a solid back-plate and 100% red switches (the original vengeance board was hybrid mech/rubber dome) so get it if you want, but personally I prefer Costar boards when considering standard TKL (cm rapid, rosewill, filco, etc.).

I think I'm gonna take this challenge upon myself and build a machine! I did a bit of research and came up with this for a start. Are all the parts even compatible? Is anything overkill or severely underpowered?

Remember, pretend you're talking to a 10 year old kid. I have no experience with this kinda stuff.

Bros don't let bros buy AMD. They are shit for gaming. i5 all the way. Replace that 650ti with a 750ti. And you want to get a SSD as well.
