Well hello, what do we have here? Looks like Silverstone just released theSG13, a successor to the SG05 this year. This might actually be a good solution for me.

It is exactly 9mm longer, which SHOULD fit the MSI 970. I'll wait for confirmation, but this is good news as the case is relatively inexpensive without the power supply as is.

You're still gonna wanna use a blower fan type card. You do not want the heat exhausting into a case with one fan for airflow.

So I'm playing Dragon Age Inquisition with ArcheAge running on the same PC I just built in the background, been doing that successfully for a few days. Then my computer locks up. Doesn't do that much, but I chalk it up to not having reinstalled windows in forever (will do that when my new SSD gets in). When I reboot I relaunch everything and get shit for FPS in both games. Like from 50fps to 10fps in Dragon Age Inquistion on max. When I set it to low settings it's playable. Fine. I update my drivers and try either game. Still getting shit FPS. I reboot, then run unigine heaven and get much worse results than before. When I first built my PC I got slighter better results than:

Clear the BIOS settings and set them up again? Something that happened in the crash might have triggered the BIOS to stepdown the processor clock or something?

Regardless, running a very resource intensive game and some sloppily coded asian MMO at the same time is a recipe for disaster. I melted a GTX 460 doing something similar once.

Thanks. I didn't change much in bios, but I reset the defaults anyway and everything is back to normal. I'll keep an eye on the temps. I don't think archeage renders while in the background, it's just in memory.

I'm started my investigation into what I should blow my hard earned money on next for my computer and am seeking your broness' help on where I should place my cash.

Here is my complete current buildand the TLDR is below
CPU: Intel Core i7-4970K w/Corsair H110 Watercooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H
Memory/RAM: G.Skill Trident X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB
HDD: WD Black (1 TB + 2 TB)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
Case: Corsair Air 540
PSU: SeaSonic 750W

Now, I could upgrade fully because I'm an idiot and have the money but I think it is high time that I upgrade my main/gaming monitor (currently a Dell U2412M) and my keyboard (currently you'll all laugh, see the PC Part Picker link).

Monitor: Any suggestions for the monitor? As far as size goes, I'm cool with 24" but could go smaller/larger. Things I'd like to see are 144 MHz, 4K or a G-Sync monitor.

Keyboard: People rant and rave about how wonderful mechanical keyboards are. I buy that. I get it. But I also have a fiance that sits in the same room that I game in and prefer to live to see next week so if they are loud as fuck, that may not be the greatest thing for me. What do you guys think here?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to get the games I'm playing currently - League of Legends, CS:GO, DayZ, BF4, and a couple others here and there. I like to play games at the highest possible graphics settings if it actually makes the game look better or doesn't hinder performance too much (ie BF4 I run at full graphics but DayZ I tone it down a little bit since it is finnicky as fuck performance wise. LoL and CS:GO on full obviously). I wouldn't be opposed to adding a second or new GPU if required for the new monitor.

4k res will require SLI for the highest settings on current AAA titles. If you aren't going to be happy dropping visuals, then you need to factor in either a 2nd 780ti or two new GPUs (2x 970 or 2x 290x).

Mechanical keyboards are loud. Even the quiet ones.

I'll call myself an expert since i built a custom mech board a while back. Currently the large majority (99%) of the mechanical offerings will be using a cherry mx switch. there are 3 main differences and colors (that's how they're catogorized)
cherry mx blue - LOUD, they are designed to click/clack
cherry mx brown - not loud, designed to give you a little "bump"/ feel the acuation point
cherry mx red/black - not loud, no acuation point

i'll be back with more but goto a bestbuy/staples and try them out, razer has this cutout where you can tryout the switches and a few bestbuys have them out on display.

Make sure to set your ram timings back to the XMP timings after resetting your BIOS to defaults, for optimum performance.

At 4K res you really don't need much anti aliasing if you're not sitting right ontop of the damn thing.

You won't see good performance at near 120fps on anything bigger than 1440p though without some serious video cards.

gddr4 ram is available..why not go with a mobo/cpu that supports it if you're going with a complete overhaul?

I switched to a mechanical keyboard about a year ago, and had the same concerns. A friend of mine has some Razor keyboard with blue switches and it's THE MOST ANNOYING FUCKING THING IN THE WORLD to hear over Skype. I did some research, and ended up getting ahttp://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-ultimate/. This thing uses brown switches, and is barely more audible than my old G15 with the old style rubber domes. It's also sexy as fuck to type on, though one of the more expensive options.

It looks like they have a new version with some media controls, but I'm a fan of barebones keyboards; especially after having that 30 foot wide G15 on my desk for so many years.

I'll check some benchmarks but I think 1440p may be what I'll land on. I may upgrade to a couple 980s because I can but I'm not sure I'll need it. I haven't studied up enough.

As far as monitors go, right now I am looking at theASUS PG278Q ROG Swift 27". I just got home from work so I'll dig into some more reviews but first blush says this may be the route I want to go. If you guys think this is a gimmick or a waste of money I'd be interested in hearing why.

Thanks I think I'm going to look at these and some other options. Seems like the browns are what I'll want. Thanks a bunch Pizoi.

Thought about that but my quick investigation doesn't show much improvement right now. That might be for next year but if you convince me I'm wrong for the next 6-8 months, I don't think it really seems like much improvement, no?

That's currently the best gaming monitor you can buy, but it's extremely expensive and likely to face a lot of competition with similar features in the next year. CES showed that a lot of the big manufacturers are getting serious about PC screens again, after neglecting them horribly for the past 4 years of the tablet boom.

There's also absolutely no reason to replace anything in your current build, other than adding another SSD if you're out of space or something.

It's practically useless from a performance standpoint compared to DDR3. Virtually nothing you do is effected by faster RAM speed beyond 1600/1866 unless you benchmark it. If you have RAM bottlenecks, generally you need more of it, not faster RAM. Modern CPUs are designed to deal with RAM latencies. The obvious caveat is IGP performance, but one doesn't buy HW-E to run the IGP for gaming - one buys HW-E for cores and more PCIe lanes for multi-GPU gaming.

Regarding mechanical keyboard noise, my Logitech G710+ has no actuation click (browns) and dampening rubber o-rings, but it's still louder than any membrane keyboard I've used. During the day in blends into typical house/office background noise. At night when everything else is otherwise quiet, it's much more noticeable.

If money isnt an object then DDR4 yeah. If not zero performance difference between ddr3 and ddr4. Unless you plan on doing some heavy rendering/editing no reason to go DDR4 chipsets.

Although they sound impressive, those advantages don't necessarily translate into significant performance gains in modern titles. Our tests demonstrate fairly little difference between a $240 LGA 1150 Core i5-4690K and a $1000 LGA 2011 Core i7-4960X, even when three-way graphics card configurations are involved. It turns out that memory bandwidth and PCIe throughput don't hold back the game performance of existing Sandy Bridge-, Ivy Bridge-, and Haswell-based machines.

i5 4690k/i7 4790k reigns supreme imo for gaming.

Cool. I did a little more reading last night and I think I'm going to pick one up. The expense part doesn't bother me and I'm getting antsy as hell to upgrade my monitor.

Agreed but I may end up upgrading my GPU somewhere in the near future. I don't see a major jump in FPS in upgrading the CPU/RAM at all (maybe 1-3%, if that). I'll probably be a dumb dumb and upgrade to a 980 Ti when they come out just because.
