Guys from Kotaku played it some yesterday and posted their thoughts.

It's still basically Destiny 1 - this game could be an expansion. Same UI, not many new features outside of the weapon loadout options. Seems like an excuse to reboot playerbase and hopefully they have better development tools this time around to speed up content creation.

Pretty much exactly what the reveal looked like.

Pretty much like watching D1 but new locations - Saying its a new game is such a stretch, just call it an expansion.

Thought this part was interesting from the article. May help explain the glacial pace of updates and fixes

“Let’s say a designer wants to go in and move a resource node two inches,” said one person familiar with the engine. “They go into the editor. First they have to load their map overnight. It takes eight hours to input their map overnight. They get [into the office] in the morning. If their importer didn’t fail, they open the map. It takes about 20 minutes to open. They go in and they move that node two feet. And then they’d do a 15-20 minute compile. Just to do a half-second change.”

The part where it talks about Bungie trying to implement a mode where multiple fire teams fought down separate corridors to reach a spot where they all fought together to take down a boss gave me flashbacks of PoTime phase 1

A rebooted D1 with lessons learned implemented from the getgo is all I really expected.

New content, new play modes. A more expansive and cohesive playable world. A story that isn't frankensteined together. Updates to mechanics.

I'd be happy with that. Like has been said a million times, the gameplay itself was already fantastic. That it feels the same is a good sign to me. It all boils down to content.

yeah the lack of new classes, new enemies, new solar systems (we stay in ours), etc definitely makes this feel like sort of a expansion that remasters the engine so they can push out updates a bit better. disappointing, but end of the day if the gunplay and gear fun of D1 can carry over to D2, I will enjoy it for a while.

Its basically an MMO, but f2p so you can login, fuck around a while, and then quit for 9 months and no one gives a fuck

No way shape or form is this an MMO. Don't let bungie try to sell you that it is

You could say the same thing for every CoD game in the past 8 yrs. And yet they all sell like hotcakes, every time.

Its a pseudo lobby shooter with RPG elements and more persistent world. There is no Massive in D1 or D2.
That pretty much hits the nail on the head.

It's also a game that if you don't have or get a group of people to play with on a consistent basis, then you will likely lose interest a couple of months in. It's a very social game despite Bungie having absolutely garbage in game social tools

I don't often have 'remorse' in not sticking with games or coming back for expansions, but Destiny 1 I think qualifies. We had a real good group of regulars doing the first raid together and teaming up, and despite the flaws with the game it was a great experience. Not even really sure why I stopped playing, just sorta happened it seemed. Looking forward to this one.

Exactly why i havent bought the last 2 - I play CoD solely for the CTF mode and nothing more, dont think ive completed a campaign since BO1. Furthermore the 4v4 pvp isnt intriguing at all to me, especially since when we usually played D1 PVP it was like 5-6 of us. Unless they say there are like 50 story missions and 10 strikes 2 raids out the door and a very neatly scheduled DLC plan that has actual content then its not worth it unless youre just diehard about the franchise.

If anything id like to see BF1 come up with a mode that replicates Player Unknown Battleground to give me a glorious shooter fix.

Yeah and what you are getting in return is a new Destiny game.
...and playable on the PC for those of us that had no desire to play it on the console which is very exciting. I can certainly understand where hardcore Destiny fans that were looking for something truly new and unique would be disappointed though.

It's not even that you have to be a diehard about the franchise - it's more that there isn't really anything similar that is better.

It's looking like no cross-saves across consoles/PC. What a bunch of horse shit, I feel like they really dropped the ball for "next gen".

For every good thing I hear about this game I hear 2 bad things.

"We're releasing on PC... Months after the console and there are no dedicated servers."
"We're using Bnet.... 's store, not their network infrastructure. not their support staff or anti-cheat tech, just the store so we don't have to pay Valve 30%"

Seems like the PC version is just going to be a shitty port that will be abandoned by the PC community a few months after launch.

I actually didnt expect anything more than a shitty port. But at least if it plays as well as it did on console, PC dudes are in for a treat as to how a proper shooter should feel.
