Grumpus, you make me feel bad about myself lol....I have only done the first 4 story missions (solo so far) and have had more than a few situations of nail biting "I am probably going to die" stress. Obviously this makes me apprehensive about Strike (raid/dungeon) content and I know I will be eaten alive in the crucible, especially when you consider I am only playing on normal difficulty. Heck, in the open world I had to run away from some level 5's when I was 3. So I really think mileage will vary based on skill when it comes to "is this game hard enough." That said, I wonder what the balance is between skill and better gear in relation to the difficulty of the game. I can tell I am getting better, but playing solo, normal mode is still a challenge for me. I know that the difference between normal and hard right now is only a couple of levels, but perhaps we will see an Epic difficulty with different boss behavior and better AI later down the road, which would be better than a couple more levels added on.

The only thing that would make me like this game less is if the difficulty of the end game raids and strikes isn't high enough. Me and my group spent a lot of time at the beginning of the beta farming gear for the crucible and it started to seem to easy.

Then we started new characters and did all the story missions on the harder difficulty only. Usually the missions were two levels above us and it was a ton more fun and actually quite difficult. I plan on playing all the missions on the live game on the highest difficulty the first time around just to feel that weight.
I feel the exact same way and will be doing the same. My first missions with my buddy (we also did the strike) were all on hard from level 2, so going to normal after that was sleepy as fuck.

To be fair I have played a lot.

LOL, played a lot may be an understatement. Well I do not feel as bad about my lack of skill, but when you can play a game and know your not very good, but still have a good time....Its a keeper. I look back at alpha and I was so pissed at that wizard. I must have died 10 times in a row to him before I realized I had to toss a grenade at him and then unload my clip because of his damn shield that never seemed to go down. I felt stupid when I noticed this, but also felt accomplished for realizing lol. Now I can kill him in all of 8 seconds once I engage, but its nice when you figure out little things that make something you felt was impossible actually rather easy. Maybe its because I do not play shooters, but its been a long time since an MMO or RPG (primary games I play) has actually made me feel accomplished. I think the last mmo that gave me a little of this was GW2 with its jumping puzzles (mad kings tower anyone lol).

How much truth is there in this:Light Adds to Your Level Cap | Destiny News.net

It appears as if the level cap is 20...but that Light is the Alternate Advancement / Paragon level system that comes into play once you hit 20 and which allows everyone to play with their friends in much the same way we do with Diablo 3 yet still feel we are getting meaningful advancement.

That is indeed how it works. Attack and light will factor in to killing raid mobs. We cant hit the ?? Mobs because we are level 8, but if we had enough light and were still level 8 we could hit and kill them.

I have a feeling raid mobs will be level 30+ and wont be able to be killed untill a certain light level is attained.

I look forward to this odd side ways progression.

I wish I had a code still, but I have posted them all in the thread already. One thing I can suggest is to just preorder it on amazon for a code and then cancel your preorder. Amazon does not charge you and you will atleast be able to try the game out.

I'll buy the game and play for the single player/coop game since the pvp doesn't interest me. I really like the mythic scifi setting and the thoughtful presentation but if they promote pvp as a core progression pathway I can't see the game growing into a hobby for me.

Bungies got decades building an institution around pvp so its pretty unlikely.

I don't think I ever really came close to dieing on the story (except for the time I died running into ?? Acolytes). Once you know the mechanics it's pretty easy to find the right spot to engage each encounter. The biggest thing is to not let mobs swarm around you and getting cutoff. In the 3 man strike that is important for those stealth guys for the first checkpoint especially.

I do think it's a little silly to be criticizing the amount of content though, when this is a beta of intentionally limited content.

the $500m figure is always badly quoted too, they haven't spent $500m on the game to date. Activision plans on spending $500m on Destiny OVER 10 YEARS to turn it into their next big franchise, so thats like $70-100m over the 2 years it cost Destiny to get developed so far which is pretty standard for a AAA multi platform game.

I also have a feeling people are reading way too much in the very, very, very little info Bungie has given out on what the game has. I suspect level 20 doesn't open up tons and tons of new content but instead recycles a lot of the 1-19 zones, strikes, etc, but this time in legendary mode. I'm sure they will add new content as time goes on, but I think people who are expecting a whole new world the minute they ding 20 will be very disappointed.

2 years? It may have been announced in 2012 but they were working on it for something like 2 years before that. The $500M is certainly the franchise budget, and it includes marketing too, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that they're already way past the $100M mark.

I think the concept was in work for a very long time. IMHO this is part of the HALO mmo they planned a while back with MS. but never got to do it.
I'm glad that got scrapped, and we have this game instead.

Also Bungie claims that the beta is less then 10% of the game itself.

Man, Im having Destiny withdrawals today.

Yeah, I wanted to play as well. I didn't realize they shut down this week until I read it in this thread.

I'm really surprised how good it still looks on the PS3, and 360. Sager has been streaming the PS3 version since it started, and it never even has a frame hiccup.

Yeah I play on ps3 and I'm not feeling any red headed stepchild effects. It plays very smoothly while looking gorgeous. The only stutter was in a menu and I think that was a connection issue
