The season journey made me stick around far longer in s4 than before, but even then I dropped out earlier than I wanted to. I was aiming for finishing the last tier of season journey, but just was super not into farming paragon/ancient items to push 60+ rifts and leveling a hardcore char.
Little annoyed at the hardcore stuff being tied into a "general" journey, since I find them to be vastly different playstyles that appeal to different people, and thus they should keep them separate, but meh.
As for invoker, I am so ugh about it. I had a thorns paladin in d2, but having invoker around for so long as utter shit and now trying to make something out of it is super fucking annoying. I'd see a set piece drop and get excited, and then it'd be invoker. Since I always roll Crusader in a season, having them make it crusader only before it even got a rework was some serious salt in the wound.
I dislike the new "no set" idea; I don't put a shit ton of time into characters, but I got to around 700 paragon, (which if you do seasons, 700 is literally nothing, you may as well be a fresh 70 if you're trying to progress) but that's still quite a lot of time, and a lot of it in groups, and I just rarely saw ancients. I have a handful of them, and most of them were received on the wrong char.
Everything being based off of ancients, IE the gems and the no set is really irksome. Although for me, I think I just really hate ancients; it used to be get these specific things to progress, then it was get this specific weapon, then it was get a furnace, and now it's like, get an ancient weapon of a specific type AND get a furnace to cube and I'm just like, dude fuck. I gotta get a specific weapon and THEN I need it to be ancient?
That's not quite as hard as it sounds; I rerolled many legendary weapons with kanai's into an ancient version successfully but fuck me man. That's still a lot of grinding.
I imagine I probably do seasons more hardcore than the majority of people; I topped high 50 solo rifts on 5 chars this season, (again, high 50s is really nothing) but it still seems to be more than most give during the seasons. And for those people, its not like they need all the extra stuff, but I think if you're like me, where you're slightly more hardcore but not crazy enough to farm in the 1500 paragon, full ancient category, it's not incentivizing enough to keep you going.
I feel like they keep adding things to the game to remove problems and give you something to do past a certain point, but instead it just shifts the problem somewhere else, and makes you feel like the carrot is so beyond your reach.
Diablo could have used a wardrobe feature, or saved sets, for example, that would have been tremendous. The rebirth feature is utterly worthless; not even sure why it exists.
The other thing that is super demoralizing is doing high end rifts and just getting into one that is utter shite. If you ever watch any of the Let's Play from the guys who progress this shit, they'll all tell you virtually the same thing: If you get reaper mobs, just leave. If you get a cave map, leave. If you get a low density map, leave. I guess I can't really complain; RNG is literally all Diablo, but rolling random dungeons and getting into one that you know is going to be like 10x more annoying because of layout, mob type, mob density, etc is super discouraging. I can't tell you how many times I would struggle on a low 50s rift and then go into a higher solo 50 and be totally fine because the map was so much better.
Also super funny that speed became my god damn favorite pylon in rifts because of no unit collision. Fuck all the rest.
TL;DR: Hate RNG, will still play crusader in season 5.
