The season journey made me stick around far longer in s4 than before, but even then I dropped out earlier than I wanted to. I was aiming for finishing the last tier of season journey, but just was super not into farming paragon/ancient items to push 60+ rifts and leveling a hardcore char.

Little annoyed at the hardcore stuff being tied into a "general" journey, since I find them to be vastly different playstyles that appeal to different people, and thus they should keep them separate, but meh.

As for invoker, I am so ugh about it. I had a thorns paladin in d2, but having invoker around for so long as utter shit and now trying to make something out of it is super fucking annoying. I'd see a set piece drop and get excited, and then it'd be invoker. Since I always roll Crusader in a season, having them make it crusader only before it even got a rework was some serious salt in the wound.

I dislike the new "no set" idea; I don't put a shit ton of time into characters, but I got to around 700 paragon, (which if you do seasons, 700 is literally nothing, you may as well be a fresh 70 if you're trying to progress) but that's still quite a lot of time, and a lot of it in groups, and I just rarely saw ancients. I have a handful of them, and most of them were received on the wrong char.

Everything being based off of ancients, IE the gems and the no set is really irksome. Although for me, I think I just really hate ancients; it used to be get these specific things to progress, then it was get this specific weapon, then it was get a furnace, and now it's like, get an ancient weapon of a specific type AND get a furnace to cube and I'm just like, dude fuck. I gotta get a specific weapon and THEN I need it to be ancient?

That's not quite as hard as it sounds; I rerolled many legendary weapons with kanai's into an ancient version successfully but fuck me man. That's still a lot of grinding.

I imagine I probably do seasons more hardcore than the majority of people; I topped high 50 solo rifts on 5 chars this season, (again, high 50s is really nothing) but it still seems to be more than most give during the seasons. And for those people, its not like they need all the extra stuff, but I think if you're like me, where you're slightly more hardcore but not crazy enough to farm in the 1500 paragon, full ancient category, it's not incentivizing enough to keep you going.

I feel like they keep adding things to the game to remove problems and give you something to do past a certain point, but instead it just shifts the problem somewhere else, and makes you feel like the carrot is so beyond your reach.

Diablo could have used a wardrobe feature, or saved sets, for example, that would have been tremendous. The rebirth feature is utterly worthless; not even sure why it exists.

The other thing that is super demoralizing is doing high end rifts and just getting into one that is utter shite. If you ever watch any of the Let's Play from the guys who progress this shit, they'll all tell you virtually the same thing: If you get reaper mobs, just leave. If you get a cave map, leave. If you get a low density map, leave. I guess I can't really complain; RNG is literally all Diablo, but rolling random dungeons and getting into one that you know is going to be like 10x more annoying because of layout, mob type, mob density, etc is super discouraging. I can't tell you how many times I would struggle on a low 50s rift and then go into a higher solo 50 and be totally fine because the map was so much better.

Also super funny that speed became my god damn favorite pylon in rifts because of no unit collision. Fuck all the rest.

TL;DR: Hate RNG, will still play crusader in season 5.

The grind wasn't that long this season. Also the Hardcore character to max level was one of the easiest things to get. It took like an hour....

700 paragon is a lot of hours.
It's not as long as you think - you do it in a public game with a full XP build monk and you just rake in the paragons. It's the reason why they are nerfing the XP stuff into the ground and making mobs give more xp in general - so you don't feel obligated to do publics with a dedicated plvler. 700 though is really pitifully small if you're trying to go "end game" and once I realized that I was like, fuck this.

Yea, someone told me I could basically just make a char and advertise in chat for someone to plvl me but I just couldn't get up the urge. The season journey kept me hooked for longer than it might have, but RNG wore me out.

I did the HC stuff by myself since I couldn't find a plvl either(mind you, it was like 2weeks into the season, I'm sure if you do it 2months into the season it's a ton easier finding overgeared people willing to run you through shit), but it still only took like 4-5hours, normal leveling really. Only difference is I had to slot slightly more defensive shit but other than that not much, I even bumped the difficulty to torment 1 once I got the 70weapon with lower lvl req and I think lowest I dipped was like 60% of my life. Played monk.

It's only an issue if your internet is being shit, otherwise it makes very little difference compared to normal leveling process. I don't die while leveling like ever even on SC chars with no vit or cheat death passives. Well maybe once or twice, like when I was doing bounties and did Azmodan on T1 and he one shot me with a smash, but I wouldn't do a boss bounty on HC.

And yeah paragons are way too dominant in defining what GR you can do and how competitive you can be. Overall the whole system isn't very fun, but at the same time I guess that's ok, leaderboards are for crazy people I'd say. It's the same in PoE. On one hand, you have people rushing to be the first few 100s and get the prizes or whatever, but for most players, the main points of leagues is the league objectives that reward MTX and the shitty totem(mostly the MTX). In D3, that's the season journey stuff. Most people will do the season journey, whichever part they think is for them, and only a dozen of people truly compete for top ranks shit. That's especially true with all the botting.

Kinda wish the season journey had maybe 1 or 2 more steps for really hardcore stuff though, I feel it's a bit too short compared to PoE challenges. Basically the season journey atm is kinda like PoE 21/28 challenge stuff, without the 7 last challenges. But it's hard to make harder steps without completely bullshit stuff due to content difficulty not scaling other than GRs. Like in PoE you have shit like do twinned maps of all tiers, and that gets crazy hard once you get to the higher tiers(twinned is 2bosses), but with T10 being a joke and the inability to adjust the difficulty further, you can't really do it.

PoE has a bunch of actually challenging stuff like most unique maps, Atziri, Rigwald and just having stupid mods on high tier map, but D3 only has stuff that you can massively outgear like Ubers, Set dungeons, Greed Realm and rifts with the only difficulty being in GR progression or putting stupid rules like clearing rifts in 2mins which rely more on RNG and speed builds than a test of skill.

Dumb question but I'm supposed to have some Artanis xmog stuff but I'm not sure where to find/redeem it? It's not in the special items inventory to 'use' and it doesn't appear in the xmog window, unless it's only for one character or something and I haven't looked on that class yet.

EDIT: nm they are class restricted, just logged in crusader and there they are.

LoN is good, for some classes. Due to the variable nature of class legendaries and power levels in general, it's not that good for every class, but it's the best builds for certain classes, or is competitive with class sets at least.

It isn't really something you can use efficiently without a lot of hours sinked in your char though. The requirement is more or less to have at the very least 10+ ancient legendaries, and a bunch of them are specific for the builds. A few slots(like shoulders and boots most often) are kinda like "whatever" so any ancient will do, including set pieces as long as you only have 1.

Just waiting for the patch to drop at this point. I really want to do it up right. Got a boatload of stuff from older seasons and almost everything a WD could want already. Cube is almost done, etc.

Given that it takes approximately 5 hours next season to get your first set, that scenario is almost impossible.

Barring that, remember that it's ancient legendaries.

Which classes is it good on Pyros? Those that don't use focus/restraint for solo play already?
I'm too lazy to check PTR and I never checked every classes, but I know there's a LoN thorns build for crusader that's competitve, WD have a bunch of LoN builds that are better than the sets(in fact iirc the only set that's viable is Jade and then it's just LoN variations), specifically anything with pets, DH have a strafe FoK LoN build iirc and don't really know about the others.

F+R is mostly made up from the legendary effects you can get, a bunch of which are pretty strong compared to having literally nothing on your set items. Also F+R in general isn't as necessary this patch due to Traveller's Pledge(or Walk of whatever not sure of the name of the set) being relatively similar but freeing a ring slot. Really depends on your class but sometimes a ring slot can be better than a hellfire passive+25% damage.

And yeah, as Deathwing said, LoN is absolutely not to gap between legendary and set. It's something you'll most likely only use after you've already completed ALL your sets. I mean first it's a ring set, so that's annoying as shit to get, and second since you need an ancient in almost every slot, it's more likely you'll have set pieces of every type. And just having random ancients isn't going to beat set bonus specialized effects+non ancient legendaries that complement your set, you'll need specific legendaries as ancient to make a solid LoN build. It's like a super lategame gearing option for bored people.

... but I know there's a LoN thorns build for crusader that's competitve
I've been playing up season 5 on the PTR, started Crusader (invoker), playing Wizard at the moment.

I cannot fathom how LoN Thorns could be competitive. Is this before or after the snapshotting fix? I'm assuming it's the LoN/Heaven's Fury build?

Invoker thorns is just flat out broken as fuck (in a good way). Crusader is going to be in a very good spot if they don't fuck over the 6 piece in S5.
