This is being touted as a selling point for many.

But for me, it's a dealbreaker that direction by project leaders is so fiercely questioned when the goal is to make a tonally darker Diablo 4 that's more true to the roots of the Diablo franchise.

It's the criticism combined with nothing to offer that's the problem. Woke destructs, and doesn't construct. They don't offer any meaningful character backstory of their own. They just tear down what a very experienced and qualified creative suggests who was hired specifically do that job.

If this is anything to go by-- D4 isn't worth a penny. Forget $100.

Mature game csnt have a mature story. Given the success of the Witcher and Cyberpunk world and themes maybe he actually knows a think or two about writing stories.

It's a shame Blizzard went from an always day 1 company to never wanting to support them in any fashion over the years.

When it was gamers making games and not wokes making politics they were beloved.

What we all remember from Diablo 1 was our prepubescent mind filling in the low polygon count, smoothing the animations and letting ourselves easily get immersed within that basic ass story. The "idea" of Baal, and Diablo, and all those characters was fantastical - especially to that age range. Never mind the people that werent in that age range, where Diablo 1 was setting the fucking bar for an entire genre to follow.

If rape was being added just "for the fuck of it" then I could understand the complaints. Why include it if its just there as filler? But if its part of a bigger story and could be compared to the Baron storyline in Witcher 3 - then thats a fucking sad time. This isnt the 90's anymore. We cant scroll through <insert popular social media here> and not see porn, drug use, sexual kinks, and just outright pure evil. When it makes sense, turn the volume up on the brutality to 99.

Some of these games just need to go back to EQ/WoW Classic lore where its not fucking spelled out for you every step of the way. It just exists and you have to seek it out.

Pretty Brave charging $70 for this if they are going to add in microtransactions like Lost Ark.

Watched some gameplay of it on Lirik channel the other day, it looks fucking slow, which is fine for some but I think PoE broke me from playing a slow ARPG again.

Can't have trigger warnings in the games. God forbid you buy a game with a mature tag on it and run into mature themes. Art isn't about making you feel safe. It's about evoking emotion. Agree with jayrebb jayrebb that its extremely worrying that a project leads creative direction was questioned. Can't have rape in a game about literal hell.

Their version of Hell must be people who misgender and hurl racial slurs.

The politics of video games matters little to me and most of you complaining about it will likely play it anyways so why even bitch.

It looks fun, especially after the most recent info dump a couple of days ago. And personally I think they needed to monetize D3 more so it wasn't contentless for years.

It’s kinda amazing how badly they fucked up Diablo 3s story. If the bad guys didn’t say anything at all the entire game, it would have been infinitely better. They literally don’t need a story other than they are evil for a game like this, and you don’t need words to convey that.

i mean it's definitely saying something if the entire purpose of a character is that she was raped and as soon as they take out the "rape" part they just took out the entire character as well. that doesn't sound like it was a nuanced take on the situation. i'm not saying what happened was good or bad or right or wrong... just that if there wasn't more to the story (i'm sure there was) then there was no reason for that specific instance of rape to even have been there in the first place, you know?

as a mature product, it shouldn't shy away from mature topics. but that also is a call to handle those topics in mature ways.

Is Path of Exile not monetizing their game? I agree paid battle passes are BS if they're going multiple routes to monetize the game, but I'll let the whales worry about funding that part of it as long as it doesn't impact gameplay. For all the love that capitalism gets on this forum, we sure seem to hate having options to fund a game we love. I hardly spend anything in PoE but I'm glad there are whales out there to help update a game I enjoy playing.

I will. Just like I played the everliving shit out of the disaster that was D3. Still some of the most fun I can have in a week at the beginning of a new season.

we're passed the days of keeping d2 servers up and running for decades with only the original box sales. it sucks for the consumers but it is what it is. servers aren't free. i don't have a problem in the world with battle passes as long as they aren't predatory. putting up something like a $10 battle pass for a season, having a free tier and a "subscriber" tier, and then being able to purchase the battle pass with in-game currency is all perfectly fine by me.

the part that feels gross is when it becomes clear that the company is more interested in monetization than delivering good product. that line is a bit subjective, though, and people start to get offended at different times by it. but again, i don't think the concept of finding ways for a company to keep the servers running is what people are really upset by.

As opposed to the "mature" amount of blood everywhere in-game, approaching comical slasher flick levels at one point in development, like a little kid took a bucket of paint and threw it on the terrain.

As it stands now, for that M rating-- we have only an overabundance of blood and gore to show for it. They removed story and character development by a lead creative while simultaneously adding more blood. Players deserve better.
