And then comes the breakdown of that whole theory, as all the healthy single people opt out of the group plan, and the cost of the plan rises.
Such a company simply wouldn't offer a group plan. Leaving aside the mandate to do so under health care reform, this would essentially transition away from employer-sponsored plans to individual plans, which strict regulation determining pricing of plans. Yes, there'd also have to be redistribution between insurance companies, or they'll just compete for the healthiest people, which is inefficient.

So I was informed today that I will be knocked down to part-time since I am not working enough hours. That means I lose my health insurance, if this was any place besides Wal-mart I think I would be pissed. My own fault I suppose, I should have taken leave while I have classes but I decided to work weekends this semester.

Not sure what I can do about health insurance now though. Being a white male in WV with no children means the gubment is going to give me nothing.

To be honest I'm not sure but I will check into it. This is the first time since I've had a job where I haven't had insurance so I've never explored other options of getting health insurance. Appreciate the info.

How old are you? If you are a full time student you might be able to get on your parent's health plan.

Definitely look into that. It may not be the best insurance but it would be something.

If no one here already is one, I have a couple good friends that run their own insurance companies (plus they're not sketchy, which is a bonus in that industry). If you want them to run some numbers for you to see how much shit would cost, I can forward their information to you.

Most schools will have student insurance. However, most student insurance plans are not good at all. I would recommend getting benefits information before paying for it.

They own an actual insurancecompany, or they are agents/brokers selling insurance? Big difference there. I wouldn't trust any individual that says they own an insurance company, lol.

I do. Of course, I am Canadian.

When I was young(er) I fought hard against having to pay for it though. Then, *oil* and I wouldn't even have to pay for it if I wanted to do so.

Well, outside of our usual socialist "pay for stuff" through VATs and so on thing. Works fine for me, although I do wait in line sometimes. If I get really rich someday I'll probably go to Jesusland for prompt(er) service.

I just got a bill from a doctor's visit in September. There should be a statute of limitations on this shit.

There's a "statute" of limitations on when your insurance is gonna pay it. We got one from a few years ago, and told them "nuh uh, we have insurance, bill them." Our insurance said "Nuh uh, you need to file within 12 months of the date of visit or we're not paying." Then they came back to us and we said "Fuck that noise, if you can't bill the shit properly, then we don't give a fuck. I'm not paying a doctor's bill when you have our insurance on file and have been paid for other visits. That's your fuckup, not mine.

Best plan for switching jobs? Leaving mine end of april and starting another one beginning of june. I'd rather not risk breaking my leg in the one month I dont have insurance.

Call your insurance agent and ask what they have available for short-term health care. My company doesn't sell health insurance in general, but we do sell short-term health care. You can only carry it for a maximum of 6 months, but it's generally pretty damn cheap as long as your wife isn't due to deliver a child in that timeframe or something.

We write a lot of policies on kids getting out of college before the benefits on their job start, or people switching jobs. It's a quick and easy policy, we can get one written and issued in less than 24 hours, there's very little underwriting. Many companies only offer these cheap policies as a service to their existing customers, so call whoever has your car or home insured and ask them about it.
