Just saw it, standard Marvel fare entertainment wise. I enjoy them at the cinema but never feel like watching again

Film is fine - it's just an origin story with some visual spice, main issue is Dr Strange's unlikability as a character. It's basically the same film as Ant Man but you actually like Hank Pym and Scott Lang which makes all the difference.

I would like to see where it goes next though, the film establishes magic and the time stone well enough.

It ranks with Hulk and Iron Man 2/3 at the bottom of the Marvel film rankings. Not that the film is bad, all of these are entertaining.

Best origin story type movie was probably Captain America 1 for me.

think me and you are the only people here who liked cap 1 as an origin story or otherwise.

Thought the movie was very entertaining, lots of humor and awesome visuals. I was looking forward to it coming out but at the same time wary about how they'd handle bringing magic into the Marvel universe but they did a homerun with it, I cannot think of a better way to introduce magic into this universe. The movie isn't the BEST Marvel out there but it's definitely very good, everyone I went with enjoyed it too. Cumberbatch was made for this role in my opinion, and Tilda Swinton was great too, despite my initial reservations.

Strong movie, but basically the cartoon version redone with better visuals and slightly different details.

the humor was good, the way they made magic apart of the universe was done right. The story had so much potential was it a let down ? NO it could have been GREAT but was only well done. The visuals were down right fucking amazing.
Movie is a solid 7/10

It's off to a good start $86M, that's 50% higher then predictions that were between $50-60M. It's getting great reviews.

Damn I'm excited for this weekend. Really looking forward to it.

Considering the Tyler Perry movie on week #2 beat Inferno's opening I'd wager this was the best time to release as audiences are desperate for this movie drought to end.

Good movie overall, I like the concept of the Mirror Dimension as the explanation of most of the Inceptiony stuff.

Good stuff in the two post credits scene as well
While I had to explain to a friend the deal about Mordo in the second scene, the first post-credit about Thor Ragnarok tie-in was awesome.

The look when Thor sees his stein of beer refill itself is A+

I found the humor pretty damn tacky and forced at times to be honest. The stupid cape shenanigans was cringe worthy.

Visually it was pretty entertaining, but I still rank this pretty far down the Marvel ranking in quality. Better than IM2/3 though.

6/10 for me.

just watched it, i enjoyed it. obviously visually this movie was always going to be on it's own level. Dr Strange always had amazing, trippy visuals with a fairly lacking story. with the comics, it was pretty much assumed that the readers were tripping on acid while reading. i wonder how bad a trip someone would have if they did that while watching the film?

the humor, i feel, was... competent. it could have been better, but i also feel like too much humor and then strange just turns into stark. spoilers for REAL minor, mostly unrelated to plot things
the funniest part for me (which wasn't even THAT funny) was the cape scene at the end when he's popping his collar. also, the ease at which christine palmer just accepts that strange is a wizard did a disservice to how much of a point strange makes at magic not being real in the beginning.)

I swear in the screening the scene where she says, "the avengers protect us from forces on earth," she also tells him about the Guardians of the Galaxy protecting us from space. And Strange does a sorta, "who?" And she smiles sort of like. But that wasn't in the full release.

Also at times Cumberbatch sounded exactly like Hugh Laurie. It was sort of disconcerting.

Anyways, loved it. Like almost all the Marvel stuff it has character and charm, cool visuals, on point casting, and a neat universe wide plot.

I'd rank it as the best Marvel to date in my book - the "broken man" stuff really hit close to home.

I don't know anything about the comics or the cartoons so I went in to this with no expectations. Loved it and enjoyed every minute of it. The 3d was also excellent. If I have any complaint it's the standard action sequence that must take place in China that every movie seems to incorporate these days. That's so low on the give a fuck scale that it's barely worth mentioning.

Yeah, two things nagged me, not in a bad way, just took me out of the movie a bit.

- This seemed like Hugh Laurie as House becoming Doctor Strange.
- Almost the entire soundtrack sounded recycled from Star Trek. Same composer I guess.

Outside of that, yeah, some of the jokes were forced as was some of the cloak stuff, but really liked this movie. Given time I'd go see it again, but likely won't, I do look forward to seeing it again though.

Sometimes take for granted being a fan of the MCU in general, the theater gasped when Wong called it an Infinity Stone, a couple people even clapped

I look forward to the eventual making-of featurettes showing inspirations for some of these effects and set pieces. I also wonder if some will appear in Infinity War when the Gauntlet is inevitably whole. And of course now I need to read up on all the easter eggs I missed.

Seemed like one of the multiverses they highlighted and dwelled on for a moment was the cancerverse, before showing us the polyp-filled dark dimension? Also loved the War Machine reference as he's driving... military vet w/ a spinal injury.

I just got home from watching this and I REALLY liked it. Granted, it's yet another origin movie, but they did it well. I didn't go into this movie knowing that much about Doc Strange. The only issues of his I ever read were when his book was in the middle of a much larger crossover. That said, I wasn't bored at all during this.

To start it off, he was absolutely an asshole to everyone, but I wasn't about to start white knighting that shit. I knew that something good was coming. Then there was the car accident. I knew it was coming a mile away (how he was driving), but god damn was that brutal. Nothing huge leading up to it, no screeching tires leading towards doom. Just... whoops, flip flip flip. It was fucking brutal. Probably one of the worst car accidents I've ever seen in a movie. It was even more violent than the one in Rush, which was a nasty racing accident. Then there's the self pity, and grasping at straws for cures. The Ancient One was a pretty badass fighter, and the "magic" effects in this were pretty awesome. This is definitely a movie that would fuck you up even more so if you were drunk or high.

I really liked it. I'd rate it as probably the 3rd best origin story in the Marvel universe.

Iron Man, Ant Man & Doctor Strange. Realistically, this was a better movie than Iron Man, but that's the movie that made all of this possible, so it has my respect for that alone. I'm really happy to see how much the Marvel Universe has done based on 1 REALLY good movie. It's such a huge industry now.

I also can't wait to see what Sony ends up doing with Marvel's help on Spider-man: Homecoming.
