Actually my bad, I mixed up something. What I mentioned above wasn't something I read about...

Omega, it was speculation that the Doctor was The Other. I'd have to do more research but him being Omega sort of makes sense? Not as much as I'd like, though.

Yeah, it's been speculated on as far back as his first appearance really. I guess the nerd confirmation came in the form of a spoiler that one of the major sites got from a reputable long time source that Omega is the true villain of the 50th. And no actor is listed as playing anything resembling Omega other than Hurt. So it's more of adding 2+2 than any real confirmation. It's just as likely that these 3 Doctors will fight against Omega. But Omega = Doctor has a lot of history, that's for sure.

If they were to cast Laurie they would instantly return to their Tom Baker era ratings. Not to mention the breakthrough it would create in the US market here.

Me no understand?!

Strangely enough, I believe he's a much bigger name in the US nowadays than in the UK. House was by no means a ratings monster over here and most people would link him to either the fuckwit prince in Blackadder 3 or as the other half of Fry & Laurie instead of the role that made him famous in the US. Him getting the Doctor role would be seen with interest but not on the level of many of the other names that have been mentioned before. I wouldn't be for it personally as he wouldn't be able to play it with the level of sarcasm and wit that he seems to go in for, his fiction book (presuming he actually wrote it himself) reads as if it could have been written by the character of House so it shows how much of his own character went into it.

Edit: Oh derp, the video was for thishttp://www.sfx.co.uk/2013/07/09/doct...-time-capsule/

edit: I agree about Laurie. Not a fan of his actually. But he'd bring in so many viewers to Doctor Who here in the US....
Yeah it would indeed, would probably let them have a bigger budget as well. Not sure how I'd feel about that with Moffats hands on it

As for that box set, damn that's nice! Plus it's great to see Baker actually getting involved, the impression out there was that he didn't want anything to do with it nowadays but that set looks like a labour of love.

American. I really do enjoy Laurie just as an actor.

The storyline allows for a dark, pessimistic, caustic, warrior Dr. Who at some point. It almost demands one of those Doctors. I just think laurie would playthatversion of The Doctor absolutely perfectly. Like Tom Baker got pretty damn dark at some points -- so you can still have a Dr. Who like that and tell the kinds of fairy tales that makes the show so enjoyable.

I'm sure plenty of other people could too but watching Laurie do it would make me clap my hands like a little girl.

Same with the Regeneration boxset. Then Amazon.co.uk puts them up a week or three later. Can get them shipped to the US through there.

So I'm confused as fuck.

Didn't they already introduce John Hurt? I seem to remember watching the final episode of Claire and a big "introducing John Hurt" on my screen when he turned around and the not in the name of the doctor thing.

Or is that just some weird british thing that I didn't catch? I had to torrent everything. Netflix is rubbish/bollocks/shit, they've got the episodes all fucked up and the series makes even less sense if you try to watch it that way.

John Hurt is allegedly playing
a hitherto unreferred to regeneration that fits in before Ecclestone and is allegedly the Doctor that fought the Time War. He is definitely NOT the new Doctor to replace Matt Smith. Interestingly thus far they appear to be keeping the numerology as it always has been as far as Tennant, Smith etc go by.

Synopsis of the 50th Anniversary Trailer

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Trailer is an Amazing Thrill Ride
We just saw the first footage from Doctor Who's 50th anniversary here at Comic-Con. We expected hilarious banter between stars Matt Smith and David Tennant, and a haunting look at the forgotten Doctor John Hurt. But we got much, much more.

The trailer starts out on a haunting, dark note ? Matt Smith is walking in the TARDIS, while in voiceover he says, "I've had many faces. Many lives. I don't admit to all of them. There's one life I've tried very hard to forget." And we glimpse the Doctor talking to Clara about his greatest secret.

And then ? what looks like the Time War, between the Daleks and the Time Lords! Seriously. Daleks blowing up, flames everywhere, everything going to Hell. And in the middle of all the carnage, John Hurt as the non-Doctor, looking resolute. "Great men are forged in fire," he says. And then something about being the man who lit the flames.

And then, we get Tennant and Smith. Tennant, in his TARDIS, yells "Allons-y," while Matt Smith, in his, yells "Geronimo!"

Rose pops up and warns that "the moment is coming." And John Hurt's non-Doctor says that he is ready for what's going to happen.

And then: the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors comparing their sonic screwdrivers, as Tennant looks possibly a bit jealous of Smith's screwdriver. And then a shot of both of them wearing clever glasses, while Smith wears his fez and they look delighted with their cool gear. And then a glimpse of Rose, looking excited.

Oh, and the TARDIS being airlifted down to Trafalgar Square with the Doctor hanging down from it.

Smith is in the TARDIS, when he says, "I remember this. I pretty much remember." And we see twinkly lights traveling across the Earth.

David Tennant and John Hurt are inside Matt Smith's TARDIS. "Oh, you've redecorated. I don't like it," Tennant says, channeling Patrick Troughton in "The Three Doctors."

A title appears: "This fall, the Doctor will face his darkest day: Himself."

And we see Zygons, plural. Busting out of a glass case. And then some more shots of Daleks blowing up and being torn apart and generally being Da-wrecked.

Inside the TARDIS, Tennant tells Smith, "For once, I would like to know where I'm going." Smith responds: "No, you really wouldn't."

And then, someone says, "I'm looking for the Doctor." And the camera pans around to show Hurt, Tennant and Smith, with the two Doctors trying not to look at their unacknowledged predecessor. Tennant shrugs and says, "Well, you've certainly come to the right place."

Can't find anyone leak online. Anyone else have any success?

The trailer for the other special has "somewhat" leaked though, the following link is to a camrip of it for the truly impatient, of which I shamelessly admit I was one as I just watched it

It does look good!

The man saying "piss and vinegar" early on in the trailer, is that Brian Cox?

An official trailer release probably won't be far away.

So will S8E1 start with a new doctor, or do we have at least a few episodes left with Peter Pan?

The way name of the doctor ended seems like it could go either way. But I mean we've always watched him regenerate, so that breaks the formula. But then having less than a full series of one doctor also breaks the formula.

Doctor Who just makes new rules in order to break them. Total anarchy.

I know that question has probably been answered, but I must appeal to my cousins across the sea who probably paid attention when it was asked.
