I haven't been playing many games this year (at all, and in fact I had Steam uninstalled for about 5 months.) So I was getting bored a couple of nights ago, looked at Steam stats, saw 300k+ people were playing this, so I decided to give it a try. I've been reading about these types of games for years, but I'd never played one before. Obviously this is ancient news to everyone here, but from the perspective of a new player, I see a lot of fun can be had from so many different ways to do things, combinations of players, items, etcetera...pretty cool!
Quite daunting at first, but I've been sticking to a guide on playing easier heroes, and I've done about 5 games so far. I tried out Riki last night...JFC. I'm sure (I assume) he's completely easy to counter against skilled players, but in my beginner player bracket, not even knowing shit about this game, I went 15 and 0 (for kills) last night, having been like 2 kills and 6 or 7 deaths in previous games. New players just don't know how to handle that guy, apparently. I actually felt bad about it because I was completely dominating two players who kept trying to advance, and I knew it had nothing to do with any skill I had. We ended up winning that game, naturally. I don't want to get stuck on that dude though, so I'm going to keep on trying to pick a different hero every game. Think I've tried skeleton king, timbersaw, drow ranger, and, uh...something else...timbersaw chakram was kind of fun after getting that 200 percent mana regen item.
