Game 1 of the Kaipi v Alliance game was great (and KP won the series and they were heavy underdogs). I've been thinking about starting a recap blog or entry system so I've been taking notes as I've watched.
Game 1 is what I want to talk about because of the execution of KP. [A] Drafted a very stuffy, kind of retro-meta NP, KOTL, Alchemist, and Rubick with a very obvious defensive trilane in Alch, Rub, Magnus, and KOTL. Kaipi drafted a Naga Siren, Nyx, Mirana, SD, and SF. They went for an offensive trilane.
Personally I am a HUGE fan of offensive trilanes, and this trilane was executed so so well. First blood was secured by KP with a well-timed SD disruption into Mirana arrow, and they kept their cool through a Loda Alchemist stun. [A] sent NP top (piloted by Bulldog and NP is a signature hero of his) against Eternal Envy (who I think is actually a shit player but he did well here), and NP bossed him around, which was expected. But as soon as Nyx was 6 he immediately rotated and pressured [A]'s defensive tri even harder. Bulldog ported in to help the tri but it never did much that early and he was too easy to deal with with Disruption and Arrow. Then KP wisely sent Naga top for some freefarm, and she took the tower.
Obviously a SF/Magnus matchup mid goes to SF, and he used the early advantage by ALSO rotating bottom to further pressure alchemist who 20 minutes in had a total of dick for net worth. Then offensive warding on the part of KP netted them some easy support/Bulldog kills. KOTL and Rubick just died way too much to pickoffs and SF's gold advantage meant an early BKB and [A] just had no dps to be able to finish RTZ's SF even when he was out of position.
Anyway it's a great example of a very well executed offensive trilane, and KP used their advantage lane (Mid) and the lane they knew they would lose (top to NP) to make sure alchemist never got off the ground. They then secured two rosh kills and finished the job with RTZ tanking straight through Reverse Polarities.
If you're curious about how to organize an offensive trilane it's a good game to watch, and it's especially interesting since [A]'s defensive tri is so classic and it's still a decent matchup until KP rotates in heroes to wreck the late-game alchemist carry.
I bet on KP as a long shot, and wouldn't have been sad to see them lose since I think [A] is actually one of the best teams in the world, but KP just put them through a very, very aggressive meatgrinder.
