I'd give them some slack, its one of those things that has been tinkered with repeatedly.
EU open qualifiers is ridiculously stacked. Some of the direct invites (EG, OG) and qualifier offers seem like bullshit given that virtually no tournaments are occurring. Seems like an issue in general, Valve can't get its shit together for scheduling events so no external tournaments are happening.

EZ mode quals. There are no residence requirements. Just look at the EU quals - even if you make it through opens, you get to play vs Secret, VP, Alliance, Liquid, Vega, AF and Navi. That's pretty respectable lineup and I'd even put the first two teams as favorites. A team with ixmike got invited directly into the NA quals, that's all you really need to know and there will be 2 less teams fighting for the same number of qualifier spots ...
I would go as far as saying the top 6 or so teams in EU open qualifiers are probably on par with the whoever wins the NA main qualifier.

Really enjoying the DOTA this month. Gained 300 MMR with a 21-7 record. I know I'm lucky to be in such a shit low MMR that I can gain pretty fast, but it's still nice. It does make it nice where even in a game like my most recent (CK), I can have a TERRIBLE game and still win, just because the enemy team inevitably overextends and I can rally mine to wipe them (game was my fault though, I did a first pick CK to deny the enemy CK spammer, and they picked Axe and Lion to counter. Think it was my 1st CK game ever).

Been spamming a lot of mirana last few days, probably going to keep spamming her til I get back over 3k (and maybe after that if it keeps going good). Is nice because I can usually carry despite my teams lineup (if I farm or support offlane that works, if I have to roam that still usually works out, mid sucks usually but I don't go mid often with her, safelane isn't bad either).
Had a game the other day where I was roaming and whatnot and I think I was 1-0-2 at like 14 minutes with almost no farm and no levels cause I missed about 14 of my first 15 spears and enemy team had wards up to see me everywhere I went, still ended up 2nd on damage on my team and something like 11/5/19 at the end. Aghs op.

I like being able to play heroes that can do well in a support or semi-carry role. Basically, because pub games generally last for fucking ever, I can transition my support hero into a carry and not be crippled against the 5 carry lineup.
Abaddon works well, and I kind of like Venge as well. As you can see above, I've been spamming Necro a lot too; not so much because he's a good support, but Mek carriers are few and far between at my MMR. I may start playing Mirana more because I feel like she fits into that support/carry role well.

If you're good with necro rushing a dagon will roll pubs. Just run up to people, Q-Ult-Dagon-Profit. It's fun =D (works best if you get a solo lane so you can get 6/11 faster)

Sometimes I wish I was at your MMR, since every time I try new hero/role in ranked I get destroyed Pubs usually last forever, but EU likes their pushing, it's not uncommon to have one team knocking at t3s 20-25 minutes in since people don't feel the burning need to farm forever.
Among other news, Vanguard AM is legit when you are losing your lane, you are suddenly almost unkillable until like 20 minutes in and the mana burn/void hurt even early on, but then you still need to farm your way into some items, so back to BF you go...
