You technically can jump right into normal matches if you want (can't start ranked until you hit some arbitrary account level though).

I'd say run a couple bot matches (solo if you've never played a MOBA, coop if you have) before jumping into normal games. That said, I think Dota is unique as far as mechanics that other MOBA's don't have (denying creeps/towers, tower aggro, etc). I think the tutorials touch on those a little bit, but your time might be better spent either having someone from here tell you (Rethan helped me a great deal with this when I started, as did Intrinsic), or watching Youtube videos.

I have watched the games for hours, since TI1. I have never played a Moba before.

So I am an expert at the theory of it.

I watched the Secret game and it was awesome if you like pros farm efficiently, but Secret just kind of walked over Vega by simply farming up and marching into their base. Otherwise snoozefest

Qualifiers for the next Valve-organized tournament, pretty much one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year. It's also the only time you will see this many games being played in such a short time span.

As far as newbie heroes go, There's always Wraith King and QoP. Even if you suck at lasthitting, you can murder somebody with scream+ulti once you hit lvl 7+

Fucking Envy. Against PD, he tried to solo Rosh. Spent fucking FOREVER, and ended up dying with Rosh at about 100hp. PD just walks right in, hits it once, and free Aegis.

Envy is the fucking worst.

Oh, and did I mention he bought back, too? LOL.
