Couple of escort quests lead to a Dragon fighting a Cyclops... Dragon won, I killed the dragon with some serious doing on my part and used almost all my curatives... I then see some ballistas scattered around...doh... Proceed up a mountain to run into one of the equally coolest and fucked up creatures I have seen, solve some riddles and get 2 port stones(so far) not sure what the fuck the third riddle means but I aim to figure it out. I am level 24...I don't think I should be here yet.

That ... thing. And the riddles I only know of 5 of them. Saw it on a stream, not gone there myself. If you fail any riddle, it locks the entire quest line. I think there are 10.

spoiler for some of the first quests/riddles
One requires you to find a special rift stone and summon a pawn called SphinxParent. It's level 29, so if you're not at that level you need some rift crystals. You need to bring that pawn to it.

One (this is one I think will be... very hard for me) requires you to find the place you found your first seekers token, so it is individual for the player, wherever you found your first is where you find a new item to deliver to it. You get 7 days to do it. If you don't remember where you got your first one, you won't be able to progress. If you remember somewhat where you found your first, you can google a map of seeker tokens and travel to them to make sure it is the one you picked up, hope it was the first, start the quest and go there.

One quest seems to imply to give it one of the carry weight beetles, however apparently you can give it anything. The reward is a dupe of whatever you give it, so if you give it a port crystal, you'll get one extra

The main encounter system in Dragon's Dogma 2 is actually good because the side stuff in Elden Ring was sometimes "garbage" is an interesting cope.

Dragons Dogma 2 heavily touted interesting and challenging exploration. A lot of people seem to be saying that exploration is a bit basic and underwhelming and the random encounters every minute are just annoying.

And the trend on cesspools like reddit are fans of DD2 to compare it very very favorably to Elden Ring, including explaining how Elden Ring wasn't even that good in comparison now that they've played DD2.

No surprise the NPCs here that circle jerk for every mediocre game are parrotting that same idiocy. In before the epic counter that I'm the one echoing reddit talking points. Never change, nerds.
I don't think that's what anyone is saying. You're in such a rush to affirm your initial, Reddit informed opinion that you're inferring whatever fits said investment.

We're saying that sure, DD2s random side shit isn't the best and neither was Elden Ring's. When you have 9000 "random" side areas, shit is going to get repetitive - news at 11.

Anyone know the level cap? Also got the dragon blight warning for pawns at level 37. Seems like they want you to switch pawns on the regular. Also trickster sucks ass.

Can you play with out a pawn? I don't think I'd want to change them often.

You can dismiss the 2 summoned pawns. Not sure if you can dismiss your main pawn, but you can toss them off a seaside cliff and not resummon them.

You technically can yeah but makes the game a fair bit harder. You can just tag with your own pawn which levels normally and you can gear up and ignore the 2 additional, less damage but not that bad, this way you can keep your pawn as a mage for heals/debuff removal/elemental weapon buffs. You can technically use consumables for most of that but it's a pita to carry a ton of different potions and stuff when the pawn just removes every debuffs with Halidom and provides infinite healing.

But you also don't really have to switch them often. Sure they'll lag behind but levels aren't that important and stat difference won't be very visible until late game or so. Like you could grab a couple of pawns that have vocation rank 8 or 9 with good skills(around 25 or so) and stick to them until the end of the game without an issue I think.

Kinda sad they didn't bring DD1's solo augment back.

I think it's because enemies in DD2 have so many more ways to control you than they did in DD1 that encouraging solo play would probably make solo play experiences feel really bad.

Just like DD1 though you can gate it behind a fair bit of gameplay to make sure random timmy doesn't end up quitting 5hours in cause he thought he was hot shit. Just make it an augment on Warfarer(thematically sounds nice too), it's the last vocation you'd naturally unlock so you're not gonna stumble into it randomly, and at that point you should know what you're doing.

I do agree that I'm not sure how viable it'd be however. Some enemies will just stunlock you to death. Fight 3 bigger harpies(the ones that stun you) and you can't move at all until you're pawns come help you, I've had it happen when they decided to take a run around the mountain instead of dropping down a little and I got stunlocked for my full hp bar+4 potions. Wolves will often do the drag you away attack which can run into additional monsters and you're still stunned for like 10secs once they're done dragging you around. Stuff like that. But well the true solo thing would just be for fun anyway, and I think Warfarer could probably work around the issues by switching between Archer/Magick Archer(to pick off flyers), Trickster(to use the ghost for aggro) and Thief(for actually killing things). Probably with 3 thief skills cause no use for the others.

Think my game is bricked. I have the bug where all the npc's in all the big cities aggro me immediately. None of the solutions I've read online have worked. I've been trekking in the wildlands for multiple days in-game, including camping and wasting time sitting around. I'm able to do quests here and there but I can't go near cities. Tried getting arrested but they're all still KOS. May have to just play other things until they patch it.

That sucks. I read about that bug, but was on Reddit so I assumed it was disinformation. Would be nice if you could mess around on a second slave slot in the mean time, or even just easily restart your game. Good news is if you have to fight and kill all the NPCs at least performance will improve.

Hoping the game was fun until you were unable to play it due to a game breaking bug.

it's still fun, I'm just exploring the off-the-beaten-path stuff and doing whatever quests are on the roads or in small camps.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. I held off on purchasing because of all the complaints but then I figured I would just let it sit until it was patched if things were bad. Here are my useless impressions:

1. The MTX really is pretty egregious. You get the feeling that the cost of the in-game items is deliberately set high to incentivize RMT purchasing, especially early in the game. It sucks but it isn't a deal-breaker for me. I think people's complaints are legitimate even though it doesn't really effect me too much.

2. The performance outside of towns is solid and I like the way the game looks and feels. Don't have any FPS issues personally even though I'm running on an older machine (still, a 3090 and AMD 9). But, yeah, they basically ruined towns. You just don't want to spend any time there with the janky frames and stuttering. I've figured out the most efficient path to hit merchants, vocations, inn, etc, and then I just leave. The towns are a wasted effort. I personally don't give a fuck if I miss a bunch of dumb side-quests from not exploring the towns; for me it just isn't worth the displeasure. Shame because the towns are obviously designed thoughtfully and look interesting from afar. But fuck that.

3. I'm loving the monster encounters. I've had a few fucked up encounters now (Ogres with a Hippogriff joining, lots of Goblin vs Harpy battles, a slime eating some Saurans). I like how the monsters don't just sit around waiting for you but will actively fuck each other up and pile in on you if you don't have good situational awareness. Fun.

4. I like my archer. I never play ranged in games like this normally but I like the "scouting" element that my character is really good at. I often pause my pawns and scout an area before drawing mobs back to me. Its fun. My main pawn is a hot fighter/tank chick and so far I've been running with two mages: one boom mage and one healbot. I tried a few different Thief pawns but they all sucked. I'm guessing this will change as I get further into the game but right now DPS + Heals is pretty effective. Having your main pawn be your tank just seems like a no-brainer since you can equip them well and customize them.

5. Overall I like the game and would give it an 8. The MTX sucks but I'm not interested anyway. The town FPS is garbage but I basically ignore it by accommodating gameplay. This feels like it should suck worse than it does but I enjoy the wilderness enough to keep playing.

I can't believe people are still talking about the MTX. All of the items are either useless or so abundant that buying more would be pointless with in-game gold, let alone RL cash.

--------------------------

Something that people should be complaining about are the maister quests. I've played hundreds of hours of DD: DA so I knew going into the game that there's going to be side quests that become uncompletable as you progress through the main quest. Despite knowing this and checking all over for side quests and making sure to complete everything in my log before proceeding with story missions, I have still managed to fuck up at least three of the maisters. A fourth seems likely to be broken, and there's a chance I have messed up a fifth too, but I think that one is going to be ok (not that I give a shit, as it's the warrior one).

You can fix some of them by giving gifts to raise their affinity, but that just gets you the item to unlock the final skill. You've still missed out on part of the story and it even seems like some events that are part of a quest just don't happen at all if you aren't there. Like in Melve, if you never get to do Readvent of Calamity then Ulrika doesn't move to Harve at all. And AFAIK there's no way to salvage the mage/sorc ones at all if you screw them up like I did. The sorc spells are shitty for pawns anyway, but losing out on the best mage spell really sucks since my plan all along was for my pawn to be a mage 100% of the time after unlocking the important augments.

Because it's not directly about the existence of the cash shop, but how it was handled. And then the "I don't understand why gamers are annoyed, must be retards or a conspiracy" reaction from the people who seem to not mind defending a giant gaming corporation as long as they get something at all to play.

And it's almost worse that the items are trivial. It's like Capcom didn't even think to come up with a system... Just put some shit up for sale without thought of the reaction or necessity to make a few extra dollars.

And fucktards went with their programmed defenses, like they don't mind if whales prop up a game.... As if Capcom came up with some clever system to ensnare whales, which would almost be defensible.

Why wouldn't they do all this? Enough gamers are cucks and fools. They'll either get tricked into paying for useless shit just because it's available or get upset any time there is criticism of shit practices because then they have to ask why they're so willingly taking corporate dick.

Meanwhile, I pointed out the mtx was a distraction and the easy outrage potentially covering up other issues the fanboys and cucks didn't want to acknowledge. And daily more broken shit gets revealed, often with the "the real problem is" as if inept, greedy practices have nothing to do with anything else in a game's development.

Now we just need the "more expensive to go to a movie" cope and this thread will really be getting good.

Best kind of DLC: Something that adds a big chunk of content that's just as good or better than the game itself, and also priced with a similar $/hr. This is the only DLC that should exist, but unfortunately it's practically nonexistent short of a couple games like Fallout New Vegas and Deus Ex HR. (Ignoring Dark Arisen because expansions are different from DLC.)

Second best kind of DLC: A bunch of shit that's so completely trivial and unneeded that only a complete idiot would consider spending money on it in the first place.

Oh please. You're not some fucking crusader for justice. You just bandwagoned on this particular game that you actually know nothing about with all the other retards.

Welp thats ez
The patch that's coming soon will make the RC vendor sell 99 instead of just 1 for console players (and people who don't want to trivialize how it's supposed to work).

Also, the ability to shut off motion blur and lock fps to 30 on console and some other easy fixes.

One thing that got me to aggro random guards(not every NPC mind) was dropping the various permits in my storage I thought they'd just keep working but apparently you need to have them on yourself otherwise some guards don't like it. I doubt it'd aggro the whole city though, I've seen a few ppl report that one, the obvious solution is reloading an inn save but if it happened after an inn rest not sure what you're supposed to do.

I also messed up the Fighter one, I thought I'd have time to do it later. I got the sorc stuff done though but largely because I looked it up before turning it in. I don't know how good the mage spell is though(I've been lvling random vocations on my pawn to not waste points), it consumes all stamina and casts really slowly, when usually I want my mage to be spamming weapon buffs, heals, shields and cures or possibly a damage spell. The spell itself has great effects but the slow cast time makes me think your pawn just kinda locks himself into casting it instead of other stuff, and potentially die from not being able to move during the animation. Got all the other ones other than Archer(haven't been there yet), most of them are just talking to a specific NPC without quests it's weird how a few have specific quests with more complicated objectives. On the flipside most of the skills are actually kinda bad compared to the normal skills. All the channel for 3years and spend all your stamina stuff is dubious versus just using normal skills multiple times.
