Your pile of wasted dead trees isn't getting you any pussy. Grow up and join the rest of the world in 2009.
I may go for an e-reader, but I want a personal library for my daughter first. Granted it will consist of fantasy, sci-fi, and Calvin and Hobbes but library none the less

Back on topic Changes is my favorite book so far, ended a lot of sub plots well(if not in tragedy) and decent character development. Going to stop there until series is done. Maybe check out the audio books I hear the narrator James Marsters does the series justice.

Ghost stories is much lighter than Changes. Cold Days is a great follow up. I think JB has said to expect 20 books in total?

Changes was such a huge HOLY SHIT of a book. Every reader of the series finished that book and was just spent after. Gut punch after gut punch, revelation after revelation, and then the big ending.

Most folks agree Ghost Story was a bit of a letdown, but I have to wonder how much of that is exacerbated by it following Changes.

People hated Ghost Stories because the changes from Changes actually took hold in that book. I too felt disdain for it because by the end of the book so much that we had come to rely on about the Dresdenverse had actually changed. After the acclimation to the new order in Cold Days you see that the beloved universe still makes sense and you can still enjoy it. I suggest a reread of Ghost Story to judge it solely on its own merits. Much like A Dance with Dragons, it is much better the second time around.

I'm kinda the same on the whole hard copy vs ebook thing; I'll do the occasional series as ebooks, but I generally prefer to go for the hard copy of the book.

And I definitely can't do part of a series in physical books and part of it in ebooks. That's just madness.
I like hard covers or special editions from places like Sub Press for series and authors that are my favorites, but not every book ever. It does make me mad that Amazon hasn't expanded their MatchBook service. Out of all the books in my order history only one qualifies.

And yes, Changes, so good. The short bridging the too was worth a quick read also.

I remember JB having to say and deny that the ending of Changes -wasn't- a cliff hanger, because so many of us were waiting for the release date. One of the few fantasy books that lived up to the pre-release hype in my opinion.

I also recommend a re-read of Ghost Story. Read it thinking of Morty as the Hero, that might help.

The mind battle at the end was actually a pretty good scene, and although I'm not ready to get on board the ''Ghost Story was actually not that bad'' train, I did love the flashbacks (especially the one of Harry's training with Justin, he's such a pivotal character in the backstory and yet we don't get a whole lot of him through the series), and I'd love to see more of them worked in later down the road (his time with Justin, on the run, being caught by the council, his time with Ebenezer, etc).

MOTHERFUCKIN' BLACKSTAFF!

I absolutely love the T-Rex scene like everyone else, but the Blackstaff
dropping a fucking decommissioned USSR communications satellite on the vampire enclave
is the biggest wizard dickwaving piece of badassery in the series.

haha yeah if something like THAT doesn't earn you some respect then either their retards or even more powerful which is quite frightening to think of.

but grimm.... he didn't TELL anyone about it, & dresden guessed..

it was completely badass, but you know, in the grand scheme of things of magic in the dresden universe, not hard to do, pretty much any "official" wizard could do what EB did...they just didn't think of it.

well that and if any actually did it other than the blackstaff then the wardens would cut their heads off because it would be using magic to kill innocent humans. That you also wiped out a whole bunch of vampires would not absolve you of the death sentence the wardens would impose.

The only reason the old guy got away with it is because his position is basically the enforcer of the council and he is specifically allowed to take direct fatal action.

Remember it has been inferred that McCoy was also behind Krakatoa. And maybe a couple of other big ones. That is one badassed ol fart.

Such a good series. Full of laughs, open mouthed awe, snorts and giggles, and maybe even a manly tear or two.

Butcher was planning on 20 casefile books and following it up with a grand apocalyptic trilogy. He thinks now it will be 22ish books then the trilogy to tie it all up in a flaming bow of doom.

One of my favorite authors, and Dresden is one of my favorite characters. Look up some Dresden quotes on the net. Dude has a mouth on him.

One of my favorites too. I think it's because he's the kinda guy we wish we could be - he always tries to do the right thing. Maybe unpopular, maybe very difficult, maybe it involves a great deal of sacrifice, but he always tries to do the right thing. And he does it while giving the finger to the bad guys the entire time. We sympathize with every bad thing that's happened to him because of it, because we know we wouldn't be able to give up everything he has. But I don't want to get into some spoilery shit heh

"Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face."

That quote from Storm Front hooked me. It was early on, so I've been twitching about this universe for over 10 years at this point. I envy all you guys going through all this for the first time now.

For those who require a taste of skin game the YouTube video of him reading the first 4 chapters isn't great but it is mostly audible. Personally I liked ghost story, it was a pacing reset like moving from minor to major leagues. I have Storm Front to Changes on one bookshelf and Ghost Story and Cold Days on next.

Really enjoying the series so far! Just finished Dead Beat, and yes the Trex was great! I wondereded if we'd find out who Kumori really was since Harry kept going on about her always being hooded, but apparently not. I assume a somewhat insignificant character?

Just finished Ghost Stories, not sure why people didn't like it. I thought it rocked, I did cheer at the ending and I definitely did not tear up when he was saying goodbye.
