I've seen the first 3 episode and I keep asking myself, "Is this good?"

It's not bad, but I can't help but admit if it was not in the Dune universe, it would never get my time.
Third episode was simultaneously very interesting and not remotely entertaining. Well written story, solid acting, boring as shit.

I decided about 25% in the current ep (when they had mass art class) that life was too short for this shit and noped out. Fuck this pretend Dune in it's pretender son 'writer' ass.

The writing is "good." It's just fucking boring because there's no levity ever.

All the good SFF genre shows had tons of humor. DS9, GoT up through S4, the Expanse are three standout examples.

With 1 episode left in the season, I am not even sure what a satisfying conclusion to this would look like. There is barely a story worth telling here.

I like the world well enough but the story is boring. In the movies, you get this wonderful rainbow of societies, technology and people ravaged with the will to win. The show feels like they removed one color of that rainbow and expected people to enjoy it. The show would have done better if it had actually shown the technology wars and worked its way up from that point. Show how the sisters were forced to form the society as a response to the current situations.

Also, honestly most of the actors have the charisma of wet paint. There is a reason they say Star Power when it comes to actors. 90% of the people in this show do not have that quality.

The value in Dune isn't in an extended Dune universe.

The value in Dune is that it was storytelling based on Frank Herbert's personal philosophy about religion, politics, environment, and human development and survival.

Dune media that is modernized and/or materialistic is anti-Dune.

binged through the season last few days, pretty boring tbh. Girl Boss is dialed up to 12 but no real surprise in a show about the Bene Geserrit, it is hilarious seeing all these waif teenage girls stand around talking about plans when it looks like they are at a slumber party lol

can't really believe it got renewed for season 2, I don't know anyone watching and the few podcasts that have best of TV lists and stuff never mention this show. Must be some weird tax breaks or something, HBO has been slashing stuff left and right so pretty odd this is coming back.

wouldn't really recommend to anyone, it doesn't really feel like it expands the Dune lore in any real way (so far), its supposed to take place 10,000 years ago but it feels like it slots right into the new Dune movies with shittier actors and sets. The acting is really bad for the most part. The pacing and writing are bad too.

The one thing I guess i'll give it is that the protagonists are absolute villains, but thats not really that rare anymore and The Penguin did it way, way, way better.

Yeah, I thought they were pulling a Matrix at the end. That would have surprised me. Still not really knowing the villain after one season is kind of disappointing.

This show was boring. It had a couple of small tid bits but a person could miss this and have missed nothing. The best aspect was learning how the human race was almost wiped out by AI. That was interesting and I imagine, AI is what the big villain is going to be. It just takes to long. It also lacks star power and so all of the actors are average yawn actors with no real charisma. Its almost like I am watching a school play about a story one of the students wrote after having read Dune.

Another potential wasted...
