One thing I learned from good souls streamer is to avoid only rolling back or to a side. Roll frontal over the attack instead! The souls game are not counting a hit when something passes you midair. Advantage: you are in front of the mob and get a window of opportunity instead having rolled away.
Also ER allows you to jump(!) over many attacks and some spells. And yes, parry is very underrated but needs practice.

yea i found this newly devised elden ring jump technology vital to margit. when he slams hammer down you can just be in the air when it hits and take no damage. and jump-heavy-attack is unparalleled in terms of new ways to fuck a dude up.
I also got a lot of milage out of....leaning into attacks. so I move up to a large guy who is swinging from the right, i lean right as he attacks. with my hammer my guy leans down and rears back to hit..and the spear goes over my head, or i scoot under their arm as they swing and just clap cheeks.

Yeah this one you should learn pretty quick. Rolling back is often not far enough or it will land you right in the path of a follow up attack. While rolling into one will not.

Sticking to a giant mob's ankle is a tried and true Souls strategy. My problem is having to memorize where he is going to swing his sword or breath on me based on how he wiggles his toe. It's kind of obnoxious. I wish there was a way to zoom out further, but that's elden ring, baby.

You do this and avoid the sweep only to get pounded by the thing when he mashes his sword pommel against the ground like 5 times.

I beat Margit on my 4th try, maybe. I died right before he did, but my skeletal militia ash got the final blow. I saw an item drop flash by and I spent the next 20 minutes trying to find out what the fuck he dropped, as I couldn't find anything new in my inventory. That's a "can't teleport out of here" icon. It's showing you you can't use that item they give you that teleports you out while taking all your souls.
