The Banana Bread beer is on my short list. I tried some Oatmeal Porter local to Asheville NC (I think) that was pretty decent. I'm a big fan of chocolatey stouts.
I am a huge chocolate stout fan also. I didn't really like Samuel Smith's chocolate stout though. If I could work in a brewery I'd be happy for life.

Sorry guys, I couldn't think of something in between inactive and active, although I guess "lazy" could have been a good descriptor. I think 50 posts is a pretty fucking low threshold to break.

Ditto. Some of us just don't feel the need to shit up every thread with shoulders too big and too much brown banter. Does not mean we aren't here!
You're here... You're just... Inactive. It's not an insult. I was inactive on this board for months, and on FOH for years at a time.

Seriously though, should we start a rerolled EQnext guild thread or what?

Wouldn't do it on a regular server if Eqn is popular would probably migrate back to my old guild. Would do it as secondary guild on test server to hit new content or beta.

You're thinking about content you want to consume though. Marketers think about content they want consumed. Having someone post, even every few weeks, still proves you have eyes on content here. In terms of social marketing, this board is an origination point for broader marketing--in other words, you plant the seeds here (And other "core" communities) and they might sprout across larger media, like Reddit, Facebook or Youtube (If it's a little video.)

Also, it's not solely about size. It's also about the type of community. Where most people here are hardcore gamers, a lot of them frequent other social sites about games. Where as if you were to toss something up in a less homogenous social site, it might hit a lot of people that don't know how to spread your particular message, because they don't talk in the right mediums.

Anyway, social marketing is the hip new field--places like these, insular communities that have deep roots in more diverse sites, are great places for shills to do a little work. But the flip side is, insular communities tend to police very well, too, so it's more difficult to plant stuff here. In a way, people like Ut are part of the reason this is a good place to get info out, and part of the reason it's bad.

WoW had a night cycle? To me, night is dark. WoW had no dark spots that I ever saw. Had no weather either for that part (they might have added that later). It seemed to be heavily focused on the "game" not the world.

I really dislike the people who bitched about the darkness in EQ. But waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I can not see. And there are items that make this go away, so why can it not be like this all the time??? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It is a game mechanic that is not needed, it just makes things harder at night! Whaaaaa.

To the people who ever petitioned that, you are directly in part to blame for the craptastic Disney over the top brightness and cheery focus games have evolved into today. Following by the current trend in gaming in general, it is very likely that EQN will be to EQ as Diablo 3 was to Diablo 2 in terms of the mood set by the graphics.

Too much brown was a concern in Vanguard. Know what color I miss in MMOs? Black. Only way to get that color in a mmo since EQ has been to buy the dye for a bazillion gold as black is usually the most expensive color in any cash shop. EQ had it by default every 30 minutes or so the entire world turned black unless you had something to fix it.

With the gaming age being an average at around 33-37, why are game mechanics seemingly tailored to 12 year olds who are afraid of the dark and can not handle a single setback without going into rage mode? There is hardship in life? No there is not! Money comes from dad and I want to win! All the time! And since my parents tell me I can not talk to people on the internet, the game should not require communication or interaction with others to progress!

To any developer that might be reading this --- Know how many Disney movies I own? 0. Know how many kids I have? 0. Know how many Disney movies my friends with kids have? ALL of them. Most people end up with kids, and as such, most end up owning Disney and cartoon movies in their life. Just because adults buy cartoons does NOT mean we wish to play in bright cheery E for Everyone cartoon worlds. Kids do. But they should not be playing them if they are still in the age where they enjoy cartoons that much.

I wish Louis CK or Lewis Black played mmos. They would be much better at articulating a proper rant that is required towards where games today are headed. Kids should play outside. Should be downright illegal to make games for anyone below 18. No more developer time wasted at making angry birds or utterly pointless on rails kid games. Let kids play real things, sports and the likes, not sit and stare at a screen becoming unable to apprechiate actual nature because it is not as vivid and contrastful as the cartoon they are playing (I do believe one of those comedians did touch on this subject). Then with the kids outside playing, mom and dad can come home and decaptitate a few mofos in a dark online world after a shit day at work.

But no. MMOs today are funded by bankers who looked at marketing reports and noticed "hey, cartoons sell and appear to be popular with both kids AND adults!" let make our games appeal to both! Visually and mentally, but leaning heavily towards kids as they can not handle hardships, but grown ups can handle the lack of them. So be sure to remove any such feature! Play/pay to win! Yaaaaay...

somewhat related

?Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.?
Man up, Nancy.

Inactive, in my head, means that you visit the forums once a month. I would consider an account active if it's routinely viewing threads with or without an account. It's all about the eyeballs and not necessarily about how many posts.

I lurked for YEARS on fohguild until one day I made an account, and then I couldn't get it to send me an email so then I lurked for like 10 more years. Its weird how you can just read forums and feel like you know people even though you never said anything yourself really. I'm sure theres plenty on here that just check in to see if theres new info or drama but don't care to waste time posting, thats how I felt.

As with all communities the active posters are the vocal minority. Those people might only post once a week (if that), but they browse the forums daily. The point was that the traffic this community gets is pretty high. It was even higher on FoH before everything went to shit. Anyone who thinks that Brad/Curt weren't just trying to sell something is pretty naive. Word of mouth advertising can spread like herpes on the internet, and a bunch of rabid gamers can be pretty damn vocal. It is a pretty safe bet that people who actively post here also post in other communities as well.

I think some people just don't want to admit that Brad/Curt were not here because they care about what you think. Curt was part of literally dozens of "Why WoW-clones suck" conversations over on FoH. Did you get a good look at the game he was making? It was the fucking poster child for WoW-clones. He wasn't taking anything people said seriously, he just liked that the 38 Studios thread was being bumped to the top of the forums and had people talking about his non-existent MMO. Brad was doing the same shit. Talking about how amazing his game is when in reality it was a shell of what it should of been.

Personally I don't care if devs want to sell their games here. I'd encourage it actually. Just do it with some fucking integrity. If your product is a steaming pile of garbage that isn't even going to get launched (Hi Curt), don't waste our time with your "It will change the world!" speeches.

Obviously. They are intelligent men though and should be aware of glaring problems. Curt's company was a fucking disaster, and the game they were making was about as WoW-clone as it can get. Brad would of known the state Vanguard was going to launch in as well. If they didn't know any of that....well that is a problem too heh. I'd want to hear from them even less if they really didn't know what was going on with their games/companies.

I agree with the dev comments and that a lot of peeps don't feel the need to make posts where they quote to say "I agree".
