On top of that, I think part of what they're doing with the gods is trying to dump the DnD model, where you have your good gods, evil gods, and neutral gods fighting it out, with everyone picking their one favorite god to worship, and moving to a Greco-Roman/Norse model where the gods all have their spheres of influence, where good and evil don't really enter into it, and where people generally worship all the gods at once.
Not a fight they should have picked. Someone at SOE needed to stand grand - people would be much less nonplussed over the combat/class changes if they knew that part of picking up the Shadowknight class (if you didn't start with it) involved spending a lot of time doing errands for Priests of Innoruuk.

For the record this is all fixable, but they won't fix it.

A damn shame too. Hearing about pirates and ninjas today while still reeling over the reshuffle of the gods has me less confident that i'll truly enjoy this game for any extended time. Did they learn nothing from EQ2? Why destroy parts of the game that can be easily added while not affecting the masses? Younger players may not go for exp loss, permadeath, corpse runs, etc but why fuck with the lore so much? If you shit out too damn many deities, then why add new ones to the mix? If you are incapable of telling a story that includes two starting cities instead of just one, why the fuck waste money and time on SB? If they can't even fit that little of a change than how can they make this amazing AI? I'm not as passionate as many here but fuck these guys.

The more I read feedback on the net, the more I feel like if they just didn't use the EQ franchise people would be much more positive. People wouldn't give a damn about ninjas or guns, except that it's happening in their beloved norrath. I don't know why they didn't just make this a new IP and develop EQ3 with the tech.

Yep. They should have made a new IP.

I agree with rolx. The point was to jutify starting from one city. The thing is, they could have started from one city and still had DE's worshipping Innoruuk, Trolls & ogres being fat and nasty and etc.
The only reason why Ogres were fat and nasty was due to the curse of Zek, which doesn't happen in this alternate reality. I mean, they could obviously still be able to be fat and nasty if a player chooses to make their character that way in the character creator, but there's no lore reason for all ogres to be fat and nasty that we know of.

Trolls were supposedly humans that were corrupted by Innoruuk and Cazic-Thule for settling in Innothule swamp. As I understand it, they gave them the urge to fear and hate each other, with only the strong surviving. Over hundreds of years, they slowly morphed into the big green cannibals we love.

Since Innoruuk has been dropped (probably because he's not easily merged with other gods to become more neutral), the dark elves weren't corrupted by him to be evil. instead the Teir'Dal of EQN retreated through an unknown portal and ended up in an alien world with darkened cloudy skies, desolate black sand and rocky plains. I'm assuming this is what causes them to change into blueberries and give them night vision.

Plus, in EQN the Teir'Dal were a warrior caste of the elves, which means discipline and order. I'm guessing they're going to be an "ends justify the means" kind of race. Not really evil in the traditional sense, but not nice folks either.

It'll be interesting to find out how they go from being lost on an unknown world to finding their way back to Norrath and the Combine. Based on the EQN lore released so far, it sounds like it's going to happen during or after the age of exile, which doesn't give them much time to be an established member race of the Combine in Qeynos. I'm not even sure if Neriak will be on Norrath. Seems like it would make more sense for it to be on that alien world they ended up on, in which case Neriak could end up taking the place of Rancor (the city in PoH in EQ), and Keramore Thex could end up being a big bad.

Fuck, I hate waiting for them to release info.

There was something eerie and cool about a fight with a god/demi-god. We live in a world full of PC shit and restrictions - Holiday parties instead of Christmas parties, death by stoning if you get a DWI, frowned upon to play video games at 30 - among other things.

This is a fantasy game - let me live some fantasies god damnit - let me kill some Gods, drop the PC Disneycapade

Killing gods in EQ never really sat well with me. I mean, it was cool and all, but to think that a relatively small force of mortal beings could actually defeat a god on their home turf is kind of ridiculous when you think about it. Not to mention that once Planes of Power came out, they sort of blew their wad. After that it was all downsized to lesser perceived threats that were higher level than gods. That is, until they started all that shit with the discord universe. Reminded me too much of the movieEvent Horizon.

So how does that explain the oriental version of the ogres they are introducing in eqnext? They already showed in EQ with one of the expansions what the ogres looked like before the curse and it sure didn't show an oriental looking ogre.

All ogres are ninjas. Problem solved.

I wonder if multiclassing will be Eqn version of twinking. If I have a tier 5 warrior can I change to tier 1 monk and use tier 5 warrior abilities to rape tier 1 content and all the little noobs will be like wooooah look at his giant epeen.

Twinking will probably be like " I just got the staff of the Big Red Rod of Rods, I don't have a wiz, but I guess I should lvl one up now that I have all dees abilities with the big dog dick red rod "

I imagine they will eventually allow you to purchase "extra" specs. So you can save presets you like. Which will flow into buying extra bank storage so you can pack rat fucktons of gear you currently don't use but might in the future.

Monks and Warriors will have different ability slot layouts, but yeah, you should be able to use a few of the warrior abilities as a T1 Monk.

At this time the player really dont know what the end result should be but many will due to EQ1. Give that the lore is different, the timeline is WAY earlier than even EQOA at this point. There could be many different cities in many other locations that were never in old EQ1 or only as lore of long lost places.

One comes to mind is Estate of Unrest and Castle Mistmoore. You could be building up an area for the local mobs and not know it. What if Blackburrow starts as a starter city from Qeynos only to fail to the Gnolls later and those fleeing end up creating Surefall Glade. I am very interested in how they are going to pull this off.

The Witch I mentioned earlier is a good example, there are ruins there. In this game you could be someone that helped build the castle there and then later watch it fall into despair. But the bad thing is like others have said, I too think it wont be dynamic in what unlocks for only X server. I think once a server unlocks something other servers want, ppl will shift their focus to do what the unlocked server did to get it.
You're still trying to place EQN at some point in the original EQ timeline. That's really pointless because this is a different universe, a different time line, it just happens to have some similar names. Kinda like Warcraft is based on Warhammer lore very loosely, but nothing else.

Doesn't fit with the lore......
Yep. They should have made a new IP.
Spot on, they should've licensed the LoL lore (ya they have lore, considering their style of game it's actually fairly consistent too, moreseo then what EQN will deliver I think)

*Only* ogres can be ninja, then Georgeson can point how we wanted hard class restrictions and how they listen to the round table.

If I see modern concepts make their way into Everquest i'm done. That will just demonstrate that SoE is completely taking money from the casual joe that wants to do anything and everything including a sword wielding, gun slinging pirate ninja.
