Even if they were written before the website went up, isn't that kind of better than coming up with poll topics on the fly? They knew some of this stuff wouldn't fly with everybody so they decided ahead of time that parts would be put up for vote. As to the reddit comment, I dunno, I don't feel like it's damage control. More like clarification. They're still basically saying, "hold your horses until we release more info at Gamescom and PAX."

The roundtable is like when I ask my daughter which chore she wants to do first.

Found myself intrigued by the gameplay, though I find myself not super impressed since it seems to be the now general direction that combat is going.

I think it might be closer than you think but I get your point but only slightly. While its hard to let it go, its the closest point of reference given at this time with the minimal info released in the realm of future lore releases.
I do look to the old lore as a loose guide map to what could be put into the game for lore, POI and other things. Just because its not the same thing as a complete comparison, it shares the same universe. While I do wish it followed closer to EQ1, I do understand it wont be the same. The support for arguing what could happen as the game unfolds will be compared to old known lore "EQ1" in the future be it good or bad.
Basis as for timeline compared to EQ1, it could be argued that this could be in the future of EQ1 where the new Entities "GODS" are a result of things past. Much like Middle Earth. Or argued its in the past as to what I tend to think. Or something different but when they start referencing Names and Locations that are in old EQ1 lore, so too can follower of the game. This is not a silly idea to be throw off to the side.
But its not wrong to think the current stage of EQN timeline could mirror EQ1 at any point. While some may think its pointless, others dont. Same argument quoted can be applied to all other discussion on on this thread for Classes, Lore, Races, Weapons and Geography. Just because someone isnt into the posted idea/discussion from a certain forum member or group of members on a particular subject/point doesnt mean its completely pointless.

It's not even close. That's the problem. I have no issue with them changing things around to fit the must-start-in-Qeynos gameplay but they kept nothing that matters save a few of the names.
That's not how you reboot lore. Have the lore devs/Butler never read a comic reboot? Did they watch Star Trek and get the wrong impression (Vulcan destroyed! Spock and spock together! We can do what we want)? Star Trek worked because while the accelerated the movie and put in a young cast, they also kept a lot of key ST lore callbacks to fans (Red Shirt dies, Bones-Spock-Kirk triangle, Scotty has a Scottish accent, the other guy Russian, etc.) these key hooks allowed the ST fans to deal with the rest of the changes. There appear to be none of those lore hooks in the current game.

My only issue with the voxel engine that they're using for EQN is that is seems that physics doesn't exist. Blocks don't seem to have mass based on what materials they're made from. If I knock a block of stone out of a building, that block doesn't fall like a stone block, it falls like it has no mass at all. Explosions start to look like confetti poppers.
If they can hook the voxels into a physics engine that gives the blocks actual physical attributes based on material, that would be some really cool shit.

Well its a start. Its getting rid of the static shit we have been fed for 15yrs now. So if the gameplay is executed, it will be exciting times.
Also watching some of the dudes videos above, you will see the sheer power of the voxel engine in world and data creation. Its like a more powerful minecraft.
No geekdomo did a video assuming they will and it's spread like wildfire that it's confirmed.

As I've said, and where I disagree with Malakriss and etchazz, I'm interested in the voxel tech and combat mechanics. Could be very fun, they just have to stop screwing up the IP and it could be a very solid game. Not EQ3, but still a solid enjoyable game.

I agree. From what they are saying its entirely different from the crap we have been feed for too long, and that alone has me excited. If they nail the combat and the advanced mob AI they have been touting, plus the destructible crap? Shit, they have a winner.
