As I've said, and where I disagree with Malakriss and etchazz, I'm interested in the voxel tech and combat mechanics. Could be very fun, they just have to stop screwing up the IP and it could be a very solid game. Not EQ3, but still a solid enjoyable game.
EQN according to Malakriss
Characters
I'm fine with 8 abilities, I'm fine with gear being used to influence abilities more than stats and I can even accept the tiering system over leveling. I dislike what they're doing with the lore, the gods, the bazillion classes each with extremely narrow weapon choices. So when you mix those pluses and minuses I dislike how (I assume) the bazillion classes will influence the gear and itemization choices into a Diablo 3 loot system.
The Graphical World
I love the environment and what voxels can do but hate what they did with the races and the SOEmote. I further hate their reasoning for animations being linked a bazillion classes and weapons. While the female human model wasn't abysmal, we're going from original models to luclin models to EQN Kerran model?
Public Relations
Their reveal was... underwhelming. Their poster child videos left out more than they showed and their online discussion / roundtable polls are not helping their image, digging into potential gameplay, or encouraging their existing fanbase at all. 12 Angry Poopsockers and SOE are the guys supplying the arguments for reasonable doubt
The Back End
Voxels and StoryBricks are great, you need that basic infrastructure to do the wild next generation things. But a great back end doesn't make a product great. I would use Windows 8 as the prime example, where it doesn't matter how much they've improved or optimized behind the scenes, the interface and the whole presentation can sink the whole system.
God damnit. EQ1 is Windows XP, EQ2 is Vista, and EQN is Windows 8. EQ3 was supposed to be Windows 7 but that was the scrapped iteration. God damnit. God damnit. God damnit.
