I love when people are intentionally ignorant and say shit like "ITS FANTASY LIKE NOT REAL LIFE SO LOL NOTHING IS DEFINED." Bullshit. It's not that you can't deviate in any regard (Vanguard took liberties), but when you create something called a dark elf, you are playing to an established archetype that is devious and downright evil at times. There are outliers and I support that not all DEs must be evil, but their look is defined by being a darker contrast to light elves. This looks like a pallet swap elf, if I had to guess.

By that dumb as shit logic, it's OK for halflings to be 8-foot-tall, wood elves can run Ak'Anon and Santa Claus is the king of fucking Halloween because fantasy.

You guys are way too quick to assume someone works for a company or is a paid shill. Some people just fall in love with an idea for a game and won't abandon it. Most of us have the experience of doing that and resist having that dream crushed time and time again until it's 2 weeks post release and you realize you wasted the last year caring about something.

Now we're still wasting that year caring about new games, just our enjoyment is the schaedenfreude of laughing at the poor fools reminiscent of our yesterday.

If you'll re-read my comments - you'll note that I'm not talking just about lore. I'm talking about traditional story-telling elements. So yes SOE "should" abide by traditional story telling elements, one of which is the need for strong villians.

Since you're going to reply something to the effect of "No they shouldn't, they can do what they want".

I'm going to tell SOE exactly what Red Letter Media told George Lucas in their classic review of the Phantom Menace. Yes, there are great directors out there who make great movies that are not bound by traditional movie-making/story-telling elements. You (George Lucas/SOE) are not one of those great directors so it behooves you to stay within the lines.

You need to read his posts. I understand and accept different opinions, but this fucker is on another level of dipshit. I don't think he necessarily works for the company, I think he's too in love with it and any form of criticism is like a slap to his face.

I'm definitely leaning towards him being an obsessed fan who wants to get his name in front of the devs as being the guy who's defending everything they do.

Probably true. Certainly I shilled for Vanguard back in the day.

However, my posts were usually of the form "Yes, but". I would agree with some of the criticism ("Yes VG was super buggy", whatever) then I would add "but the classes are great." This guy on reddit tries to dispute obvious facts - see the DE thread where he denies that there are even DE's in Everquest Next.

And the reality is that companies do hire paid shills for social media.

I'm rustled because the Devs are using Reddit as a primary source of feedback and guys like that spend all day killing any and all real discussions about the game.

Is there a bigger active discussion for EQN right now than the one on this board? I'm seriously asking because I don't know. That sub really isn't all that big, and I've looked at EQHammer and EQNexus and they don't have huge discussions going on. Is this the biggest?
