Don't care, console players can't be bothered typing and they are generally a lower form of human. I don't want to socialize with them. They should be on special plebs servers.

PC servers should have a little icon of a gold crown. Pleb servers should have an icon of a little plastic spork.

You could always you know.. get a life, talk to real people. And I could live with VOIP, I just prefer typing. It's better.
The majority of folks I play with I know IRL. Amazing. Some are friends that have moved off. Some are former WoW guildies I met and got to know on vent first before hanging out IRL. They are real people.

Your statements reveal much how you see a "social" game.

Oh and nothing sucks worse than having reasonably paced content and typing. Typing is fucking awful.

You shouldn't need to type in combat. And by reasonably paced I'll assume you mean constantly running around fighting, and you want to have lulz with your other high school buddies. In which case, you should already be doing that in GW2, WoW, or one of the 700 mmo's that cater to your type.

Butler is the CD. He was responsible for crafting & diplomacy in Vanguard. I'm sure he lives for alternate modes of advancement. If they can just fucking execute this time w/o the bugs that hammered VG I'm sure it'll be hit.
crafting was well done in vanguard... hopefully they do something similar in eqnext.

I do not understand the obsession with fucking typing. Find yourself a fucking guild with people you like and get on vent, mumble, or ts. Fuck, some people use Skype for pvp because it can have the least lag.

I type all fucking day at work. Lets actually socialize. I'd crack up if the game was MMO Jesus, but the only way to communicate is VOIP.
voice chat breaks immersion..

I don't get the people who both argue for greater community and social interaction and then the hate of voice chat. It contradicts each other. Yes you're going to have stupid people with stupid sounds. That's why you have mute. But you know what, in today's age, you're more likely to have a pleasant chat with someone in a dungeon if you can talk with them as you play versus having to type everything out.

Hell most people don't even pay attention to the chat log when they are playing video games.

Most people I know and randomly chat with playing video games typically don't mind fixing their mic or whatever. People don't act like shit heads if they are grouped with a small amount of people. It usually cuts down on the asshole-anonymous shit people usually do. You're less likely to be a ninja dick head if you've been chatting with people for 20 minutes. It takes the barrier away of the internet by a layer.

Voice chat personalizes people, and makes people think differently. I would be interested in seeing if a game where the only way to communicate was with voice chat and voice chat was localized so when you talked, only people near you could hear you. Maybe you could hotkey, in-game, to increase the volume of your voice to "shout". Heh.

I'm too old not play with people I like. And the majority are college or grad school or work friends. I know few people who hang out with high school friends at 34 that moved off and did the whole higher education and career thing.

American voices have no place in a fantasy RPG. If everyone was british and euro and talked like vikings or whatever, I might get in to it, but as soon as I hear modern accents, modern words (dude, omg, etc), and the inevitable crackly shitty muffled talking, it completely takes me out of the world and destroys all chance of suspension of disbelief.

Did you never play EQ?

Voice chat personalizes people,
Exactly, it personalizes people and I don't want to be grouped with Josh from Denver and Mikeboy from Vancouver etc. I want to be grouped with Elves, Dwarves, etc. Text helps keep that imaginary wall intact.

Yes we used fuckin text chat for EQ cause only real option for voice was shitty Roger WIlco.... We get it you don't like to TALK to people you would rather fucking text x0x0x

I think you hit the key to this at the bottom of your post... if voice chat was not a side thing and "part" of the game somehow it might encourage less of the garbage i have experienced in voicechat... if i want to talk to folks about their lives i would go to a bar and hang out with people IRL... but if the game integrates it somehow as necessary or part of the experience... it could be super cool ( whispering or mobs hear you... shout when shit hits the fan )... including positional somehow, that would rock.. but today its a giant voice chat room.

One of the cool things about MMOs that had community was that your interaction was channeled over the interaction of the world... hearing someone talk stupid crap about RL really kills voice for me .. but as you said, if it was integrated into the game experience it would be incredibly cool

Agreed with everything Draegan said.

Breaking immersion my ass. Because they had chat UI and OOC channels in 13th century England or middle earth.

No, in EQ people could type well and the ones who couldn't learned to. Text speak wasn't common, especially outside of combat.

I don't think you even know what it's like to be immersed in a game world. You're all a bunch of modern gamers, and therefore, fucking clueless.

Qwerty is my buddy that stood up in front of me, my ex wife, and our friends at a party and fucking physically acted out his wizards last great DnD battle. Only you'd probably kill yourself there because you had to talk to people.

Grow an imagination dude. Have you played an MMO lately? Even EQ? F-bombs and "omg" galore since people figured out how to put their index fingers on the F and J keys.

A lot of DayZ servers do this. You can only speak to those in your immediate vicinity, and you must use voice chat. There's no group chat or whatever. Its realistic I suppose in the sense that theres no filter and anyone nearby can hear you. And I must say, its pretty fucking awesome, for DayZ at least.

Walk into a building and a guy points his gun at you and theres a standoff, in voice chat. Its pretty sweet. I couldnt begin to describe all of the unique outcomes Ive had because of this.

I remember walking into cherno hospital and some teenager who must have been John Connor from T2 was begging me, crackling voice and all, to give him a bloodpack and to help him. I told him in voice chat I didnt like his annoying voice, then shot him in the face. Plenty of other times where I squaded up with a random, got myself shot for being a moron, or just threatening dudes. Makes "pugs" in DayZ very enjoyable. But this is pvp where if you end up hating the person you meet, just shoot 'em.
