I mostly game with the same 10 people, so I like VC. Because I game with friends and have been friends for years I can say, "hey guys STFU" or "hey guys I am really sick of all of you so I am off headset a bit." And I am always up for giving people a chance on VC.
Also, I am not the best at typing and I use a Nostromo Pad so when I "have" to type I basically lose the ability to control my character.
Lastly, I am very social and most of the time prefer an actual phone call (work or personal) compared to an email or text. I truly enjoy speaking with people, old friends or even strangers and sometimes with strangers after 5 minutes I want to run away in person or on vent. I was using a cell phone for almost a decade before text really became popular via smartphones. I think text as a first option of communication is a younger generation thing, I will be 37 next week.

I hate to have to be the one to state the plainly obvious, but voice chat/typing is not an EQ Next or MMO issue. It doesn't matter what side of the chat argument you are on. People are going to play their MMO the way they want to. The Guild culture will either require or abstain from it. The game itself isn't the one that sets these rules or boundaries when you have 3rd party products like Ventrillo standardized across the PC ecosystem.
So, why are we talking about this again? Other than the fact that qwerty is a massive troll who takes the most retarded arguments ever and latches on to them like a pit-bull. Seriously, JFC... this is a dark day for the boards.

People are bored I presume. No new info and 36 days away. But yes, a completely pointless discussion.
I think a cool feature would be kind of a /tell version for voice chat. I like using text for most stuff, but for bartering, auction house stuff, and other detail oriented things, I would love the in-game option to basically, "open communications channel with player X?" and ask someone a few quick questions with an in game voice option, and then close it again. I don't want it always-on since otherwise ironforge would be a cacophony of music/mouthbreathing, but I think having a /tell for VC would be a great idea so we don't have to mess around with setting up different ventrillo for every aspect of the game.
Exactly, and that's what's been lost. It's not roleplaying, although roleplaying can be a part of being immersed.
I don't want to think about real life when I'm playing an MMO. It's as simple as that definition. I want to think about the world, the world of Norrath or Britannia. I don't want to think about Bob's cat jumping on his keyboard, or fart jokes, or Sally's drama with Joe on vent, or even my most efficient dps rotation - because the dps rotation isn't a part of the world either.
All of these things inhibit my experience.

OT/DT is better because it allows for DT-based class abilities such as rescues, and of course allows healers to dps and or cc while they heal.
Wait. People want an innate voice chat in the game? You should definitely get to know someone by the content of their text before hearing their voice (first impressions are huge). There is nothing wrong with having it in the game for those weirdo's who want to use it, but there should be an option to turn that shit off.
