Do people honestly believe this company will be the one to deliver the next big thing in MMO's? Blzzard has already fucked up it's second attempt, enough to scrap it. I just don't understand how a lot of people have these MASSIVE expectations when we have seen absolutely nothing. The chances of pioneering a genre for a second time are just so unbelievably small. By all means get excited etc I really hope EQ next is great but I just cant understand these immense expectations.

I manage my expectations of any game these days. Too much shit going on in real life to be so emotionally invested in a game these days tbh. I actually agree a lot with Dumar and Utnayan that the industry is fucked and needs to crash most of the time.
As someone who is really excited about EQN. I will gladly admit that my expections are really low. Also, this "The next big thing in MMOs" mindset is just awful.. I am not sure if anyone that has a brain is looking for or expecting thatanytime soon. If you are only looking for the next big thing in MMOs rather than looking for a game that you personally like and enjoy, then you are going to be doing nothing but saying every MMO sucks until the next wow happens (which probably wont).
eh? It'll be a while before soe does anything that big, they will continue along their path of massive profit in the F2P genre. But other companies will keep bashing their heads against the wall with wow clones for a while longer.

Disclaimer: Flipmode not having a go at you or saying you are too excited. Convo seems to be struggling to find evidence that a lot of people on this board are hoping this is going to be the game changer.

I meant nothing else on the horizon for the next year or two. That's all. This game will be on PS4 so it'll have a decent population.

I think he said that based on what we know is coming in regards to games like Wildstar, FF, ESO. I wouldn't say his expectations are massive.. I think he just expects something different from EQN. As do I.. That doesn't mean I'm going to be kicking rocks for a month if it doesn't happen lol.. Maybe your post just read a bit too dramatic to me. I don't see people as emotionally invested as some would want us to believe.

Just in the last 2 pages or so. Not to mention this is the most talked about game on this forum with basically no info on it. I don't really care any more I couldn't be bothered its pretty obvious a lot of people here have their hopes on EQ Next. Not that that's a bad thing at all.

1. The technology exists at this point for some of the things we've wanted for years to be realized in an MMO. ex. Dynamic world, terraforming etc
2. SOE may not have the track record of producing great MMOs, but they certainly have the resources and the experience, so the potential at least exists.
3. The total silence when it comes to this project, coupled with the excitement coming from industry insiders and people who have supposedly seen the game.
4. There's nothing else coming for a long time if it isn't this. Pathfinder online in 2016?... Maybe?

I choose to believe they aren't making another wow clone, that it won't be a world scaled down to its bare minimum size and that dungeons will be more than 15 minute instanced romps, and that hopefully there will be more to character development than just level up and visit a trainer. I'd like to think that they will try to expand the MMO genre instead of be complicit in its regression into glorified coop multiplayer games with subscription fees.

SoE sometimes fails at execution but they have a decent history of innovating. EQ, Planetside, and SWG were all very different from the standard offerings of the times. More recently PS2 and DCUO are solid and not WoW clones.
So I have more faith in them delivering a decent product in EQNext than I do with most other mmo companies. It won't be EQ1 reskinned, but I never expected it would be. Even more important, it won't be another WoW clone.

Actually some of what he has been saying has giving me enough proof that he may have sources behind the locked doors. But I guess theoretically he could be full of shit as well. /shrug. Doesnt really matter.
Yeah sounds plausible to me, but like I said, I don't care anyway because I never know whether I'll like a game until I've had a good play of it myself. I thought GW2 has the potential to be totally amazing and revolutionary, and in reality, I hated it.
