Tad, don't get too butthurt about the IP changes. They came right out and said, "EQNext is a reboot of the franchise" before they showed us anything. Shit, remember when it was revealed that Starbuck was going to be a woman in the new Battlestar Galactica reboot? People lost their shit for months. That turned out pretty great for the most part, minus some shoddy storytelling towards the end.

As the devs reveal more stuff, we'll get a better idea of the big picture. Yeah, the lore is rebooted. Shit will be different but kinda familiar. Personally, I'd rather that they reboot it instead of continuing the mish-mash of lore they had in EQ and EQII. Maybe not go as far as they did, but a clean slate might be just what the franchise needs.
They've revealed enough. The godlore is terrible. No Innoruuk? Dark Elves are just a caste of Elves? That shit has to go. Star Trek was a reboot. As Dahkoht said it's more like a curb stomp.

A major purpose of lore in a reboot is continuity - Kirk is still Captain. Spock is still a Vulcan. Batman's parent's still get killed in an alley, etc. Their reboot changed some cornerstones of EQ lore when they removed the evil gods, made everyone buddies and DE's and Shadowknights just a bunch of the guys.

*shrugs*the dark elves were just a caste of elves in eq1's history as well, it's just that that caste was 'royalty', rather than 'soldiers'.

Dude they were twisted by Innoruuk which explains why they're blue, like being SK's and Necros and living underground. There's no good reason for any of that in EQN lore.

We don't even know the Dark Elf lore in EverQuest yet, do we?

Seems a bit premature to rage about it, other than being a bit butthurt that Innoruuk was taken out.

EQ lore: Innoruk kidnaps the elven king and queen, tortures them, and turns them into dark elves.

EQN lore: the elven military retreats into a portal during a battle with the dragons, which leads to an unknown location (probably another plane), something happens to them there (probably having to do with the dragon that made it through the portal with them) that turns them into dark elves.

They haven't shared the actual 'turning into dark elves' part, but I'm betting it's there.

This is just where the lore stands right now, maybe down the road an ancient tablet is found revealing a "true history" of Dark Elves and Shadownights. This new information spreads across the land changing how all races feel maybe splitting us into factions. For all we know maybe there is no Inny because he was defeated and is imprisoned in some deep pit. You know how it is, history is written by those who conquer not those who are conquered. They have a lot of things they can do since it's a complete rewrite.

Its so funny to me that everything I was raging about was "dude chill the fuck out" and your all mr. calm and lets just figure out whats going on. But then you find out about the lore a totally minimal part of actual game play mechanics minus starting area's and you cry about it for like 300 pages. I'm glad your at least passionate about the game like I am. Welcome to the club. The only part of the Lore that really matters is no one is evil.

It's all about continuity. If they're going to call it an EQ game they have to have some continuity. I'm willing to give the mthe benefit of the doubt (against my better judgment) on the mechanics but not on a retarded storyline.

I've accepted to follow and play it as a joke/parody game.

The landmark could have some interesting gameplay aspects to entertain me , and I'll just remind myself that ponytail and the rest went pure moron on lots of aspects and figure somewhere in a corner McQuaid secretly wants to kill them all.

It won't be EQ , in any shape to me , but I'm hoping to enjoy with Flex/Tad and others running about with the Red Panda Pirates making sure to destroy all Troll Ninjas (sorry Rolx) and my personal vendetta against Tony the Tiger in goalie pads.

It will be a joke and insult to the original EQ but might have some fun gameplay aspects , one of those terribly stupid comedy movies you still watch just once at least.

While personally I hate that Innoruuk was discarded(as well as quite a few others), I just don't understand the need for it. There is no good reason to fuck with the lore this much unless they are lazy or just trying to make a quick buck. I'd rather DEs be a later entry race 6 months down the road than to be a starting shit race. Why couldn't the DEs have been stolen by Innoruuk while they were trying to save the other elves? What possible reason to get rid of Bristlebane? That was the server I experienced most of what makes me like EQ. They are removing gods for what purpose? Are they pillars of what makes this game function and the Wowtards(their thoughts) can't handle all those names? Why fuck lore just because you can?

New players don't give a shit so why alienate older players like that? What if some people like their Trolls and DEs to be evil from the start and have to work at being good? I don't know all the answers but seeing new gods made and old gods canned under the guise of "Star Trek did it better so we'll just fuck it up some", sounds like the Sony we know. I'll still try to rape anyone that tries to rebuild Halas, etc and become evil asap but I may not want to be part of every RC now whereas before I was really digging being a part of a new EQ. This is new but not a new EQ. They have to do this right or I'll just jump that much quicker when Blizzard/Trion/Qwerticon does it better.

Amen to that, I didn't ever think' i'd have to be wanting another blizz game to come out when theres a bran new EQ coming out. Like I said before, the game we knew before is gone boys. Might as well just embrace this new shit if any of you think we are going to change anything your crazy. They do polls asking if they should put something in game when it is already in the game, what a concept.

Yeah, I'll just play along with the Red Pandas and gun down some poor kobold lizards.

I dislike the fact that they got rid of the god most of my characters worshipped in previous EQ games too. The difference is, I understand the need for it.

They're revamping the gods to be more ambiguous. Less cut and dry, "That one is evil, that one is good". They're also removing their direct influence in Norrath and having their influence work through the inhabitants of Norrath instead of sending their avatars into the world to say, "Do this, my faithful followers!".

In other words, the deities in Norrath will work a lot like the gods in Game of Thrones, where the gods are still calling the shots, but they don't directly intervene. In a sense, it seems more realistic that way, and less like old testament fire and brimstone shit.

Why couldn't the DEs have been stolen by Innoruuk while they were trying to save the other elves?
See above. Gods don't roll like that in EQN.

What possible reason to get rid of Bristlebane?
he was merged with Talyn, who is a female persona, probably because there was a lot of sausage gods, but not many buns.

They are removing gods for what purpose?
To condense the list of deities and demi-gods that had, over the course of 15 years, two games and dozens of expansions, numbered in the high double digits. How can you create a meaningful religious system in EQN if there are 30+ gods and deities, with tons of overlap when it comes to their power and sources of their power. Fuck, EQ did what, three expansions on Cazic-Thule and his kids. You want to talk about soaking lore for cash, there you go.

New players don't give a shit so why alienate older players like that?
Because older players aren't their target demographic? Because most folks who played EQ back in the late 90's, early 2000's have jobs and a wife and kids and don't play MMORPGs anymore? This entire reboot is SOE basically saying, "This ain't yo daddy's Everquest".

What if some people like their Trolls and DEs to be evil from the start and have to work at being good?
You won't have to work at being good if you want to play an evil character. If you want to play an evil cunt, you can play an evil cunt. StoryBricks is supposed to support that playstyle.

I'll still try to rape anyone that tries to rebuild Halas, etc and become evil asap but I may not want to be part of every RC now whereas before I was really digging being a part of a new EQ.
Excellent! I'll be right there with you, raping and burning and pillaging with my DE Wizard.
