Aren't they in the dragon army as well? Why didn't they call the little dragon men Phyxians and leave Kobolds as Kobolds?

Saw this discussion about the ebook on another site a few days ago or so. Blogger has some interesting theories and observations. Wasnt sure if I wanted to repost it here given the small few's idiocy of hatred as some like to remind others, it isnt EQ and not even close.

I decided to make this as a place for people to discuss the first ebook for EverQuest Next "The Last Stand of the Teir'Dal" by Maxwell Alexander Drake

From my understanding at this point in time there are no separate races of elves and are only made of the factions as explained in the lore panel video.

Based on the above I think people can come to the conclusion that after reading the short story that this is a prelude to the creation of the Dark Elven Teir'Dal we all know.

First sign to me was the appearance of Lanys T'Vyl. For those of you unfamiliar with Lanys T'Vyl, in the original EverQuest she was known as the Daughter of Hate and potential Avatar for the Prince of Hatre, the god Innoruuk.

The second sign was the unearthly draw that brought Keramore to the wizard spires buried beneath the city surrounded by oddly shaped humanoid figures. My assumption is these statues represent or are replicas of Innoruuk.

Finally my third clue was where they ended up once passed the portal. They were in a strange land covered in black sand and a black starless sky. This description resembles one you can find for the Plane of Hate in the original EverQuest. Though instead of black sand is appeared to be a cursed village but still had a black starless sky.

I honestly look forward to a continuation of this story to see what becomes of meek weary Teir'Dal forces and to see if they turn on the Combine (possibly enlisting Ogres, Iksar, and Trolls to their side.)

Edit: This has also lead me to believe that the gods mentioned in the lore panel may not be all of them but only the ones that the Combine worship/know of.

Innoruuk and Cazic Thule could still be very real but have chosen not to have shown themselves to the races of Norrath yet.

I love the world (names and locations based on the lore) of EverQuest, but I have to plead ignorance on the actual story. I'll be more bummed by strictly not seeing the locales or races or whatever more than anything. I'm not trying to justify anything being done, but so long as Tunare (and Innoruuk, etc.) is actually a thing in this world I'll be happy.

Eh. They're both okay. Not quite Fritz Leiber but certainly readable.

But the dragon turning the mage into a Lich was a little meh. Didn't really make a lot of sense the way it was written.

Personally speaking, I think it'd be smart for them not to have every piece of the EverQuest lore in place when EQN launches. One of the problems the original game had is they didn't know how successful the game was going to be nor how long it'd stick around, so everything was just made up on the fly. Hell, by the third year, we were already invading the Planes and killing off the pantheon of gods.

Considering they seem to be putting a lot more thought into the lore this time around, I'm willing to sit back and see where things go. Things like the raid calls look to be designed to allow us to see various events in EverQuest unfold. While the Plane of Hate might not be in at launch, perhaps we'll get to take part in invading it for the first time. We already know that's sort of what they're doing with Halas, and I think it has a possibility of making the experience that much better if it's a story we get to work through rather than them only moving the game's story each time there's a new expansion.

What was "generic" about EQ lore? If you're judging the lore based on what was presented in the game then you have no clue what you're talking about.

I did not read it like that... I saw it as

The dragon could sense the dark voice inside of him and decided to let the lich "out" by killing him. It seems to be centuries too soon for Miragul, but I have to imagine that there is some sort of connection there. The guy is certainly pretty damn nuts and more than a little evil. Also guessing that his musician son ends up being a Bard, perhaps the first one?

Also interesting that the nutso archmage is a member of the Koada'dal which is described as a forbidden secret society. So at least at this point the notion of High Elves who seek to return to an age where the elves rule over the 'lesser' races makes them sound not exactly good.

Could the now-lichfied archmage raise up the slaughtered elves as a race of undead 'high' elves over on Faydwer while the gung ho prince with Lanys T'vyl goes off and lands in Lavastorm and founds the Dark Elves? I wonder how far afield with the lore they are gonna go
