Definitely playing a Dark Elf, no doubt in my mind. Finding the SK asap and being as ruthless and evil as possible.
It does seem like you'll have to "find" it (or rather be ruthlessly evil). I agree with whomever said we all start "neutral" so unless the DE lore changes drastically the 8 choices for starting class have all go to be neutral classes (Warrior/Wizard/Blah/Blah).

knowing there's a good chance I'll only have time to play casually (2 hours a day tops), this likely will be a holy grail title for me.

Eh if you go for it you should be able to get it offered pretty quickly from what they're saying. I presume you're starting class will be Warrior?

Indeed, Azeth and I will be SK bros that wonder the countryside raping the horses and riding off on the women!

...err... but yes SK asap = the win

I'm curious if SK/Paladin are like Assassin. They've said Assassin requires that you already have a rogue class - makes sense that SK/P would require warrior.

Yup, it's amazing how much immersion that adds. FF14 has it and it's amazing. SWTOR? Man those 'worlds' were stale as hell. Sure they lacked more than a day/night cycle but without it they were even more turrible. Just turrible
The type of environments in SWTOR are a Bioware hallmark, but they don't work in an MMO.

I doubt I'll be able to pick a half elf until humans and elves start matching parts after launch so I'm not sure what I'm going to pick. I wonder what variations on a ranger they'll have. I prefer the old school EQ take of two swords and efficient with a bow over the common modern flavor of nearly all bow with a pet.

PAX. This weekend. Then nada for a while.
Oh I forget Big W Powah's SB stuff - if that hits this week that and PAX will be the only new news for a while.

@Gogojira I expect both. Dual wielding ranger and Bowger. However, I'm now thinking based on the rogue/assassin comment that a lot of classes will have pre-requisites. So again I bet you'll have to roll warrior to start.

I wouldn't mind that but I'm almost certain ranger was mentioned as one of the eight starting classes in the beginning (unless you're just referencing my dual wield/bow preference). It's not that big of a deal though, I'll find the sweet spot and mix and match abilities.

I still wonder what this implies with epics. Creating 40 epic quests certainly isn't an insurmountable task. But do they create a variation for all 40 classes or just have the base class and all of its branches covered? Although a bow ranger and a melee ranger would need entirely different weapons. And I'd guess that would open up the opportunity for a character to obtain every epic weapon for all the classes he has unlocked; not sure how I feel about that. I think I'm just arguing with myself at this point.

Why do they have to create 40 epic quests? Assuming epics are in the game, isn't it sufficient to create an epic quest for each of the (IIRC 17 or 18) weapon types?

So Gogojira the Ranger gets the epic Twin Suns (Dual-wielded swords). But Twin Suns is the Dual-wield epic usable by any dual-wielding class (Warrior, SK, Ranger, Rogue). The only thing that changes is the abilities that Twin Suns grants and that is based on the class.

While less ideal than class-based epic weapons/quests, what they could do is something akin to GW2's legendary weapons, where there's a legendary for each weapon type, rather than each class (so rather than getting the Ranger Epic, you might get the Epic Bow or Epic Sword).

Of course, if they do go that route, hopefully there would be an actual quest attached to each weapon, rather than just grinding out a bunch of rare materials with no real context to them; and hopefully there would be fewer rainbows used in the weapon graphics.

EDIT: bah, ninja'd by tad.

Personal preference. They will probably handle it similar to what you've said, but class-specific epics were a highlight of EverQuest 1 for me (even if I didn't get mine until way after they were relevant). Swiftwind and Earthcaller, Ragebringer, Fiery Defender, Jagged Blade of War; they were just so fucking cool and identifiable with a class.

But again, I'm all for way less classes and being restricted to the one you choose.

Pretty sure they mentioned Archer as a class, but I don't remember a specific mention of Ranger.

If they do I think it would fall under Authored Content. So a mix of crafting stuff + actual quests. However, I also don't think Epics will show up until a year or so after Release ;-)

I thought they mentioned it at SOELive - as one of their "for example but this doesn't mean it is in the game" like they did with Paladin and SK.

Yeah, no doubt something like that will happen well after launch with I'm OK with. I've just always that gear and weapons crafted specifically for a class were awesome (it sounds like they'll at least have some racial armor sets so that's cool).
