A little bit too much for my taste. But at least I can grind the adventurer class and maybe crafting tiers (if they roll over as well) until I get bored of making Ogre Condos.EQL is very much a sandbox
Hey, thanks BIG W.I can safely say I am working with the CEO of Storybricks, Rodolfo, to get this to you guys.
No matter what, there will always be sand in the vagina of jaded mmo keyboard warriors.Sand parks and theme boxes, box parks with more of a sand theme.
We bitch because we care.although we critisice Pony boy a lot, we are in my oppinion, the most hardcore group of EQ fanbois on the internet. Although we bitch about many of the design points, we all WANT EQN to be epicly amazing and hope storybricks can help push the genre into a new positive direction.
This should be a tagline at the top of the siteWe bitch because we care.
I suspect EQN is themepark-y, just not as much as the current run of quest-hub MMOs. Whether I'm right is impossible to know because EQN is so far away from relese. How is a game where the only progression in game is unlocking classes via questing not a extreme version of a theme park on rails?
They seem to have taken the part of EQN that wasn't theme park that being EQL and made it into a entirely different game.
Well they have said there wont be levels that could also mean no exp are it could just mean exp doesn't raise levels and just works for buying skills and abilities.I suspect EQN is themepark-y, just not as much as the current run of quest-hub MMOs. But they've promised us:
Item progression. Ability progression (in the broadest sense, including thinigs like crafting receipes). Player housing (though there may be limitations on this). And of course lots of exploring.
There are five tiers for each class and you need items, abilities and XP to tier up. XP comes from questing but is more AA like in that you can apply the XP gained to any of your classes, not just your current base class.Well they have said there wont be levels that could also mean no exp are it could just mean exp doesn't raise levels and just works for buying skills and abilities.
If there is no real exp then almost all progression is going to be driven by quests. That would be a theme park on rails by any definition. The main issue here is if game is group centered and people in group are not all at same point in quest then quest based progression becomes a huge PITA.
If there is general exp that is used to purchase skills and abilities then SoE was being kinda dishonest with there no levels claims.
Well whatever it turns out to be we can say at this point that EQN is clearly leaning far more towards a Theme park game then a Sand box one. That's fine I think you can make good games in ether style you can also use both terms for a excuse as to why you produced a mediocre pile of drek. EQL seems the Sand box game that removes the empty part and allows players to create a in game permanence by creating content. Frankly I'm more positive on EQL then EQN at this time. EQN just seems to be a collection of ideas taken from everywhere in gaming industry and thrown together in a box with Dev's then being told to make a game out of it.There are five tiers for each class and you need items, abilities and XP to tier up. XP comes from questing but is more AA like in that you can apply the XP gained to any of your classes, not just your current base class.
Also we really need to move all the EQ threads into the EQ sub forum. -_-
I skipped that game so for me rails means forcing people to take a very limited path in order to progress in a game. When I think of on rails , it means that bullshit SWTOR had where most of the area you could see but couldn't actually get to , you had to go from planet A B C in order as dictated by your class quests to level and so on.
EQN/L doesn't sound "on rails" to me at all.
There has to be a way to kill and skin cows for leather. They've mentioned leather couches already. Just rip off Minecrafts uber simple combat. No AI really. So back to crafting in EQL... If they go tailoring how will they handle hides and shit like that? Assuming EQL is looking to target almost a FB type audience at this point how likely are we to see mini games..
For instance, getting skins will be more like Buck Hunter where you're ported to a forest and have a first person Bow experience or fishing is more of a Basshunter type game. Let's not forget growing plants farmville style.. anyone else see all this coming? It makes sense. Add all that to a minecraft world with a social vibe and they've built the MMO Facebook to an extent. Instead of browsing someones page you go check out their plot..
