Interesting read , and I'll admit it will be amusing to see the first player SOE bans from all their games for being mean on Twitter
tongue.png

Seriously though , they are saying if someone at SOE decides you are a dick on Facebook regularly they cut off your max level 1000+ hour account ? The rage ensuing would be /popcorn worthy. Wonder how far they will take this policy or its all PR blather.

"Carlson believes that each game should have individually tailored standards: shooters are inherently competitive, for example, and therefore shouldn't demand the same behaviour from their players as more collaborative genres. But there should always be standards: clearly stated and rigorously enforced from the outset, both within the game and outside of its confines, regardless of a player's status or popularity.

"Not only will we ban your forum account, but if it's serious enough we'll call up customer service and have you banned from all of our games. We do not need those individuals as customers," Carlson says of the most offensive and anti-social players. "A very influential player, high up in a huge guild - we'll still ban them... In our games, if you are an exploiter we don't care who you are, how big your guild is, how many people you threaten to take with you when you go.

"We can control anybody who's playing our games...[but] if we know who you are and you're abusing somebody on Twitter, we will ban your game account and we will not accept you as a customer ever again. It's not always possible to identify people [in that way], but we take that seriously."

Btw I guess if you are playing PS2 it's ok to be a dick online as shooters don't require the same standard

If you cant see the difference between horizontal progression and vertical progression you're retarded, intentionally ignoring it to troll, or both. That said, like I wrote about 2 pages and 20 pages ago, everything is napkin design right now and what we get in first alpha/beta might not confirm to those plans anyway.

I'm sympathetic to their plight. They want a game that is very accessible to a wide audience but also has the goal of being deep and rich for the seasoned veteran. This means no uninformed decisions that will effect rest of your character's life at the beginning of the game (not to mention character creation).

That being said, there had better be some hurdles for trolls to become paladins and fae to become shadow knights.

I was starting to look forward to Wildstar to tell you the truth. Soon as I heard eqn release like 2015 and some of the stuff they been saying lately, it just started looking better and better one night when I was drinking and crying to myself quietly about eqn. Its like the ugly girl at the party by the end of the night when your ready to get down but you realize you have no other options at that point.

No consequences to anything, dont worry pick whatever you want, be whatever you want, we aim to please everyone. /barf
Also, the notion that the poll and their vision were on the same page (at the same time) and then they saw the light and changed it up to "be all you can be"; I highly doubt it went like that.

Gaurantee one of the big tirds behind the game said we have to attract all audiences, we cant restrict anything. Probably the same tird behind getting rid of the evil gods.

Its very clear forum standards between PS2 and EQ forums are enforced differently. The rules are the same but enforcement isn't. What's really happening though most likely is simply a cost cutting move in regards to PS2 forums. Its clear say freerealms forums will have a different standards of enforcement then say PS2. The real point of interest for me though is the difference in dev responsiveness on different games forums. EQ has a huge amount of dev responsiveness on its forums compared to dev's being almost non existent on PS2 forums.

The movement to looking at behavior outside of official forums and games is new. It's something I actually warned someone about awhile ago because of threats to go beat another player up if they met them at a SoE convention. That person managed to get banned by SoE for other reasons though.

Agreed. I think they make a reasonable argument against hard race/class restrictions; that being said, soft restrictions would still be ideal: *starting* class restrictions, difficulty getting the proper stats for a class if that class is sufficiently against type for your race, having to jump through extra hoops to get a faction to train you, shit like that.

They wont do that though. You can already see the way this game is going, this game is made for noobs and those that don't want to work for anything.

An honest question: Why do people have a notion that "work" should be required to progress (edit: not talking about having to put in hours to learn the game, but about arbitrary means to separate those who have played 100 hours vs 1000 hours) in something that is done in one's leisure? Isn't work what most people try to get away from when they're on their off time?

SOE seems to just be taking a lot of character progression out, but we're not able to tell if they can make difficult content. If they had sufficiently difficult content that required a high skill level and a knowledge of the game/its mechanics, would you consider the individual player-skill buildup required to complete that content "work?"

Edit: I'd like to add in myself that I hope they have some hard as hell content in the game. With how they're setting EQN up, it looks like a boss with a 99.9% fail rate might be the only thing capable of keeping a lot of players interested.
