I'm just saying I'm not sure your system is very scientific is all
So let me get this straight...

You're arguing what? That yes, their marketing efforts are effective? That they are fully engaging the community less than 4 months (they claim) from a beta release of landmark? That it isn't significant that one of the most active EverQuest discussion communities on the Internet has pretty much stopped discussing it 3 months after its reveal?

Forgive me if I'm a little confused. I'm not saying the sky is falling here, but I am saying that they are not effectively engaging their community, especially when they claim that player involvement is a cornerstone of their development process.

I'd say they are a lot more interested in what's happening on reddit than here. That's their target audience and it's a lot bigger. Quaid may have a point, but not applied to this forum

Even the activity on Reddit has slowed to a crawl. I've been watching, but not posting, there too.

So what? Get your ADD in check. Shit ain't coming out tomorrow. The majority of what will decide this game for me probably isn't even functional internally.

About as close as Easter... and to turn this into an analogy of the thread activity, I dont really care about Easter with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up and all. This is still the most anticipated upcoming MMO for me but what is there to talk about? That hasnt been said ten times, anyway.

At this point they would have to put out revelations daily to even come close to satisfy people. I frankly think to much info is more dangerous than not enough because people turn into "bible scholar" types where 100 people read a passage and every one extract a different meaning with most if not all of them wrong and bad. The game becomes panned before it is even in beta and then the company freaks out and changes to much and the game really shits the bed.

We frankly are our worst enemy a lot of the time.

Sorry to break it to you, but the people here haven't been the bellwether for mmos in a long time.

That's why we went from Dev's posting daily, to Curt Schilling, to no one.
I would argue we lost a lot of that focus by all the forum hopping drama. Hell, I had been a moderate poster on FoH since the beginning but missed all of the forum closure drama. One day I went to have a look and got the "That's it I'm out" blank webpage. For a few months, my Google searches failed me to find out WTF had happened and it was actually only this summer that I found Rerolled. Again, it didnt help this forum was renamed to something pretty obscure with no FoH reference either aside from the copied layout.

TLDR: RR isnt what FoH used to be.

Hyping EverQuest Next proper at this point is irrelevant, but getting interest in Landmark when the shit is only a few months off from beta would be advised. SOE is taking its sweet time showing us anything which typically hints at being nowhere near ready for launch. I'm sure they'll roll this shit out like DOTA2 and be in beta for like two years.

They probably should have just yanked EQ from the title, called it Landmark and made it a product to support EQN and future building-based SOE games that might come in the future. EverQuest Next Landmark is a mouthful and it certainly isn't going to roll off the tongue like Minecraft.

Well, at least they're showing gameplay in the dev diaries now. Progress!!

They might even be ready to have videos that are mostly gameplay by the time EQNL goes to beta.

Oh yeah, and am I the only one who thinks they need to slow the run speed down a bit, based on that video? He looked like he was on the edge of careening into walls a few times there.

Back to the video and their tier progression: couldn't it have been shorter by saying "It's literally Minecraft".

And then they showed some boring objects with boring textures on it. I feel like I missed something. Did they at least have bump mapping going on?

I don't know how anyone can 1) deny the fact that interest is fading in this game across the board, and 2) logically try to defend it as no big deal.

I used to check and post in this thread daily. I check it maybe once a week now. I hadn't been to reddit in weeks, but one look over there shows me all I need to know.

I've been maintaining since the reveal that their PR for this game is some of the worst I've ever seen in the 15 or so years I've been following MMORPGs. It's just shockingly bad.

Calling their PR is bad only covers up that the reveal was bad. They're catering to a group that will play for 1-3 months and then be gone by next quarter while pissing off everyone else.

Good PR can cover up the shortfalls of a game that hasn't been played yet. We've seen this time and again over the years before games hit beta and the general playerbase gets to see whether they're actually up to snuff or not. Burying a game with the IP-recognition of Everquest this early into the dev cycle is almost unfathomable to me.

Would it have killed them to talk to a geologist instead of just playing minecraft to get their ideas on tiers and it's content. A golden axe FFS. Im not asking for super realism but there has to be a happy medium.
