It's not exactly news that they are just pinning random names from the EQ franchise on entirely new continents/gods/races/whatthefuckever. So we get largeish lizard people that happen to be called iksar. If people complain enough maybe they get a companion race of small lizards and get to ride dinosaurs like in Warhammer (still a travesty lore rape but at least cool).

I consider Iksar a big race because they're pretty damn tall. They sort of look likeGoombas in the Mario moviein EQ2, so definitely base it off the superior, classic EQ1 models.

They'll probably have a slim waist, broad shoulders and a chiseled jaw in EQN because everything either needs to be heroic or cute.

Funny how Georgeson is the beacon of hope in most of their interviews/comments on game mechanics and basic design philosophy consider the first impression we had.

Every time I see one of his opinions I agree with on the roundtable, I ask myself, "wait a minute, is he cars salesman-ing us or for real?"

Broad shoulders to hold huge pads. Looks right...

I honestly have reservations about any game that has to hand hold you even to make groups. If you have to hold their hands for the most basic of social functions(interacting with online people), then I don't have much hope that you are willing to do the necessary actions to move the genre past WoW and it's extremely bland and generic system.

Speaking of EQ2, it's odd that sarnaks didn't make the cut as a large race, given that the fae made it on the small race poll. They were taller than iksars, at least.

The entire concept of "Log in, queue up, do shit, log out" destroys the community of an MMO. It practically turns it into a single player game.

Log in spam LFG for 1-2 hours, log out. Oh so great.

Group finders are tools, there to use or not use.

If anything I would just give bonus exp to groups formed manually.

Probably the number 1 complaint I heard about EQ while playing, people despising having to wait hours while spam LFG.

There is some validity to that statement but EQ was a long time ago and the current system sucks. I don't think giving a bonus to manual grouping will really be that effective and I don't want extra reasons for everyone to be at max in 30 days. Group finder was supposed to bring players together and help with community. It basically ended up being a loot finder to quickly get you to the part of the game that really mattered. That's the current trend and I hope EQ is trying to move forward from that because it's just not a very good system and WoW and Wildstar will have that segment down pat. let's try something different here.

The game needs to be finding ways to get people to actually interact with the world instead of playing the system. Things to do besides hit the group finder button, do some shitty collection quests and log off doing your daily chores to get to 90(or that one piece of gear). There's a market already flooded with games like that. I'd like a bit more out of my 2 hours and at least an attempt to do things differently.

If you have a better system than spamming the LFG for hours while you watch TV, we'd love to hear it. Group finders were added for a reason.

It could be a variation of group finder but just because they were added doesn't mean there shouldn't be improvement. There's plenty of people that have watched TV waiting in group finders for close to 45 minutes even in WoW. Plenty of people watching TV while they are supposed to be running that instance as well. Group finder fills a need with many, many problems. One of them being the overuse of WoW's systems without any solid differences.

I'm more concerned about the explicit divide between "solo content" and "group content". I prefer it to just be "content" that depending on how good/bad you play your class, and your class' own strengths and weaknesses, that it can be defeated in a variety of ways.

But pretty sure this will do the typical "here's your overland faceroll solo content" and "here's your instanced only-5-people-and-exactly-5-people-ever-can-enter-this-room" thing.

I liked the EQ system. But i'm sure many many others didn't. You were in areas so long you knew most people your level and getting a group wasn't as hard as people make out. Send PM to group leader, get your name on a list and wait to be called in. Solo while you waited (if you could). Ok it wasn't the quickest way but it felt the most natural and immersive. Was also a good reason to join a guild make friends and be good at the game. but yeah if you don't want to wait or make friends be in a guild and be max level asap then the group finding tool is good.
