Another EverQuest game designer has announced he's leaving Darkpaw. Phillip "Pip" Sexton. He worked his way up from tech support, so he's another internal hire. He posted his farewell on the official forums:

He claims he loves the EQ community but I don't recall him ever posting anything of substance on the forums. Who knows the real reason why he left but I can only speculate that nobody worth their salt wants to work for a shitty studio like Darkpaw run by rapacious investment bankers like Enad Global 7. It has to be embarrassing to work for a studio that hasn't produced a new game in 20 years.

How many design devs are left on the team now? (Note: our beloved lunch lady forum moderator has already had to delete posts on the thread.)

Most former EQ devs have ended up at Blizzard working on WoW or for Amazon. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

As I understand it most of EQ's money intake gets funneled to EQ2 anyway.

True. I don't agree with this but somehow the people at Daybreak allow this. EQ has been the cash cow for years.

If it's any consolation, the EQ2 dev team is light years better and more engaged than the EQ1 dev team, which looks like a bunch of drunken hobos living in a mental hospital. The last expansion livestream was an absolute snorefest.

Doesn't EQ2 have substantially fewer players than EQ1 nowadays? Doesn't make a ton of sense to cling to EQ2 development and pouring money into it when EQ1 is the one people are much more actually still engaged with. That was also the case in 2004, though.

Eq 1 devlopment is the same thing each year. They're the ground hog day of games.

You are right. EQ2 has half the number of players that EQ1 does. But inexplicably, they get twice as much money, which makes no sense. EQ2 does have better developers and better forums. I think that Enad Global 7 is embarrassed by EQ, so they put money into EQ2 because the visuals are better eye candy for their investor presentations.

The EQ franchise seems to be in a holding pattern right now. Neither Ji Ham or Jen Chan have a clue. The listing for a creative director for a new EQ video game is still not filled. It will be 2 years this July since it was posted.

Anyone know for sure what the global EXP increases are as the game goes on?

As I remember it the main increases happen in GoD and TSS, with TSS reaching Live exp rates, and I've heard there's also a bump in DODH. Looking for confirmation that it's all 3 of those and what the rates are if possible.

Looking forward to the GoD increase, whatever it is. AAing in PoP is a time-consuming grind, even with PoFire. Paw (in LDON) should speed things up, then Paw with the GoD exp increase will make AAing personas much easier.

It's for sure god, dodh, and tss. I don't know the particular percents.

A big and often overlooked increase (un-decrease?) In god is the pet mitigation nerf. Mages can finally use their earth pets very reliably from this point forward, like to the level of killing kodtaz mobs with jabober is easier than the same in normal 65 ldons pre god.

According to a forum post:

GoD launch gives 50% of live XP rate
DoDH launch gives 75% of live XP rate
TSS launch gives 100% of live XP rate

Poster isnt sure about Pre-GoD but if 25% is correct, youre lookin at a 25% increase.

So basically the exp rate will double with GoD, from a (in theory) quarter of live to half of live.

That's actually a pretty huge increase. Might wait on a lot of AA-farming for non-essential personas until GoD and Paw are both out and fly through them like 3x as fast as PoFire now.

There's no way XP doubles in GoD.

I probably can't find my data I used to have but I seem to recall it being about a 33% increase -- pretty far from 100%

There seem to be quite a few 20% claims that seem semi reliable. I also managed to rabbit hole into finding a ngreth statement confirming both zone and mob "zem" modifiers exist, which I'll need in the future when some champ argues stuff like acrylia cant have 2 zems.

What COULD explain it being "double" but not actually double would be if its additive somehow. So like, if a zem is actually 75% and you were adding 25% to it for 100%, and now you add 50% to it for 125%. That would feel like a 20% increase.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's more like this:

TLP start: 33% of live EXP rate

GoD: Increase to 50% of live EXP rate (so about +50% from what it is now)

DoDH: Increase to either 60 or 67% of live EXP rate (67% would make sense, but so would 60, since I barely noticed it in the past)

TSS: Increase to 100% of live EXP rate

TSS felt like a much bigger EXP increase from the previous expansion than DODH or GoD did in the past, at least to me. Would be cool to get some sort of concrete clarification on all of this which is why I asked to begin with, but it seems like nobody really knows for sure at this juncture.

Think my guild tested this in PoFire from PoP to GoD and iirc it was like 7% an AA kill to 9% or something. This was like 4 years ago though, so I can't fucking remember.
