Oh, almost certainly people pull in the vast, vast majority of their krono selling haul very shortly after an expac unlock. Thing is, after about 2-3 weeks, I have to imagine that shit is as dry as a grandma's pussy. Which further begs the question, "Why?". A couple extra hundred bucks in a month? It just screams like some degenerate, I live with my parents/get subsidies from my government and sell drugs on the side sort of lifestyle.
I had a friend who would RMT in PoE after a new update and this was pretty much exactly him. He'd stay up for 24-48hrs, amass massive amounts of loot, RMT it all over the first 2-3 weeks, and was a total loser who drove a piece of shit car, lived in a dumpy apartment with his mom, etc.
The "serious" kronolords aren't able to hold a steady job and RMT fucking 24/7. Sure, you might box a bit and sell some krono here and there, but what are you pulling each month? $300? $400?. And not only is it just the time required to farm krono, it's the fact that demand for krono in a 22 year old game can't be that fucking high to where you have a vast market of people to sell to.
there are a few shitlording ways to run bots pretty much afk and make a little extra scratch. i know a few of the guys that do that. like afk mage farming type stuff. theres also social RMT -- we used to do "meth runs" with the boys and hit fear for loot. mostly a social thing. those kinds of guys amass a few hundred krono over their career, mostly for fun.
the stuff you are describing is definitely next level. although again on expac launches i used to take time off from work to play with friends and we would get a lot of crazy loot and all make 20-30kr each just by accident basically. i think a lot of people are super aggressive on launches like these types of groups my friends and I do but arent "farmers".
farmers are a different story. we actually push farmers out mostly while we do this stuff early on before they ahve solidifed their systems
