If I were managing this project I probably would just say, "Ok shows over folks, we'll be back in a few weeks or something. Go play Everquest and planetside bitches"
But why would they do that when we have the meta-game "Hit Alt-F5 on twitter, alpha forums, and rerolled until the servers are back up"?

How exactly, do you delete a claim? I hadn't really looked over the options and want to be ready to do so when I get back in game. Do I need to be standing at my claim to delete it?
I deleted one of my claims. What I did was use the "U" key(think it was U), that brings up the claim menu. Then you click on the claim # and there's an option to delete it. It put everything on the claim into my inventory.

Oh man. This is a good news and bad news post, but hopefully you'll all see it as hugely good news after you think about it. Post incoming.

Honestly, if he says they are going to bring down the alpha for a while to fix the bugs that are preventing us from long term testing, I'm all for it. As much as I want to play, I have plenty of other games that are on the back burner.

I really can't explain in 144 chars. Sorry. Soon. Forums folks will get it fixed quickly, I think.

Right, they have to think long term here. There's no point in trying to continue with things being broken if everyone can be better served by them taking everything down and restarting again in a couple of days. Of course, it's speculation that this is what's coming but I think we've been around these games long enough to see it as being one of the more likely scenarios.

News regarding Serenity. We've got the hardware ready, but personnel to test are home now. Will get running first thing in morning. Safer.
at least one server will be up tomorrow

While this may be troublesome now, this is exactly the kind of large-scaling test that many projects need early on. As they go forward, they are going to be able to really hone the stability of the final product. Not many devs have the luxury or the desire to get this kind of load test this soon in a dev cycle. Hell, TSW (a game that I loved) was finding issues like this the week before launch and they started scaling up the hardware.

Extremely confident fix is correct. Bad news: Old voxel changes irreparably damaged. No recovery possible. (explain in forum post later).

We ran servers over 4 mos. without a single data loss internally. Only the new config was having issues. We found this and it explained all.

Nutshell version: We absolutely fixed the "voxel data not getting saved" issue. It was a single database setting that wrecked everything.

So he explained it more. You only lose the stuff you altered on your claim.

So if you put a forge in a cave you would have to dig out the forge.

Anything you built should be fine.

Wow that's awesome news.. though I'm just going to set up a dummy house tonight and see if it survives the night, just in case.

(My claim voxel data was already destroyed twice, so no biggie there)
