With this being a F2P I would hope so, if only to reign in the mass creation of additional accounts to circumvent any restrictions.

I wonder if you're allowed to buy/undertake more than just one land plot?
I remember them saying a while ago that you would get one plot for free and could purchase more. One thing I'm wondering is, since it's FTP, what's stopping me from making a crap ton of accounts, claiming a bunch of plots and then just giving my main account build rights for all of them?

That would be disastrous...

That's why I'm not a fan of FTP games... if the game has fees and you get one land-plot per game account then that make sense.
Let's hope the free portion of the game doesn't include your ability to own a land but you can do everything else otherwise (I heard that you can build/destroy things in un-owned or un-protected areas).

It may be free to play, but I bet you have to register CC/Paypal info to start an account.

I bet you don't since that would be a significant barrier of entry that doesn't align with the competition.

Well it would provide a solution to the 'open multiple accounts and monopolize swaths of land' problem. They certainly aren't going to limit accounts by IP, so I think limiting them by credit identity is really the only reasonable way forward that I can think of.

The only other game with a real money land ownership model I can think of is Planet Calypso... And I'm 99% sure you need to enter CC information to participate in the land ownership/trade features.

It's too easy for gold farmers to use fake IDs and generate infinite land-plots and sell them for cash.
Not good idea either.

I think they should charge real money/station cash to buy a land plot.

Didn't Second Life have a land rush of sorts? Where some of the early squatters made lots of real life cash selling it later? It was designed into the game though. Didn't play Second Life so I might be recalling that wrong, but that kind of gameplay if set up correctly can be interesting.

So perhaps the way to deal with squatters is to make it part of the gameplay. Haven't been following this game so don't know what SoE's plans are, but if they do allow squatters then the thing to do is limit the amount of land available. And release new areas in piecemeal fashion on specific dates that most of the playerbase can plan their schedule around. Kind of like the Oklahoma land rush.

Could be fun, different. And definitely allows for some of the "denial of service" gameplay that I love.

I agree I am very curious what stops the F2P make multiple accounts and claim tons. I suppose game play wise they could make upkeep x100 more expensive for taxes on F2P portion vs a on paid account ? Or something that make is prohibitive time-wise to try and keep tons of free plots ?

Is it that easy to generate fake credit information?... If they were willing to participate in credit fraud, why would they risk their personal freedom (jail time) on EQN:L virtual land?

Does not compute.

Maybe its a shady salesman thing, where you can play FTP and explore and gather mats, but you dont get a plot flag until you register a CC. First ones free!

I'm not talking about stealing CC info, I was referencing Laura's comment that gold farmers could use fake CC info to generate 'infinite' accounts/land plots.

If they could generate fake CCs at will, I'm pretty sure they'd buy something better than digital property in a video game

i'm pretty sure you won't be able to own land unless you get a Silver/Gold account

Imo, putting any kind of obstacle in front of owning even a single plot is not in SOE's interest. I'm expecting every fresh account to be able to plant at least one plot flag. The game is minecraft, being a homeless vagabond without a secure building plot would alienate plenty of folks, as would having to enter CC info when making a "F2P" account for a game. This is probably not to your liking because of your personal plans to monetize your alpha access, but that's how it looks to me.

I'm gonna guess it will be impractical enough to chain free acounts that it doesnt turn into too much of a problem. Maybe you have to put enough effort into some account unlocks or transfering resources between players/accounts applies some kind of tax penalty. basically small things that encourage you to stick with your main account if you're just a casual F2Player.

They also need some clever plans for population changes in both directions. A surprising growth is easy to compensate I guess, open a new server or 10. A dwindling pop is harder to deal with if everyone owns land, you cant just merge servers and it's gonna be mighty boring if everyone on your continent has deserted their plots.

I'm going to start a homeowner's association in my neighborhood to prevent people from fucking over our brony motif by suddenly changing their property to a lava themed undead fortress.

IMO Gold sub will probably get you three plots, Silver will be one, and free accounts will need to pay a flat fee, say $5, per plot.
