Yeah, vanilla raids in EQ2 were complete cancer. In fact, none of the raiding content from TSO and before really stands up to the quality standard of contemporary MMOs. It would be fun to play Swashbuckler again (or Brigand since they're more desireable IIRC, I mained Templar when I first played but I always enjoyed my Swashy more), but if I have to pay to play at all then I'm not down.
kunark raids were pretty enjoyable. I loved TSO raids but man crit mit was so fucky.

You probably loved TSO raids because you didn't play a healer.

Also Nexona, Silverwing, and Venril Sathir were designed by retards. (RoK only had a few good fights.)

I'll admit that they were fun for their time, but they absolutely don't compare with the raiding content in games like Rift or FFXIV now. It would be difficult to have to go back to jousting invisible 1-shot AoEs that only have an ACT timer as a warning.

Never thought I'd play this again, but the idea of just having the original content makes me second guess that. I was also on Permafrost under the name Daly. Has any date been set for this or they just announced it's gonna happen?

edit- Also, I don't think I'd be going back to this for raiding purposes and more of just the grouping/heritage quest aspect.

Where should I be looking to even begin learning about EQ2? Are raids instanced? How many players per raid if so?

Sweet, so we only need to roll in with 4-5 static groups to power grind at launch this time.

And with tagging locking contested stuff to the people tagging it - there's no stupid DPS War bullshit.

Yeah.... EQ2 leveling is super easy if you know the places. I don't know how many time my friends and I did this and I can tell you this, they are coming out of the woodwork knowing we are getting a new PvP server.

Get collections, discovery exp, and run the quest hubs. There's certain instances that you can utilize that are great for leveling. Some of the instances you can mass pull and AE down with the right class comp. Number of ways to approach it. I hate that instances fragment the community but PvP kind of forces people into certain areas but it also causes people to run and hide a lot and wait for ganking opportunities.

I'm hoping they anticipate a high player load and revert the mobs back to mostly group encounters like it was at release, at least for the first few months.

Grouping and running quests were great. I really liked the housing system and AH as well. There are some things EQ2 did as well, if not better, than anyone. It is just unfortunate it was completely overshadowed by ability bloat and poor itemization.

It was probably due to the amount of time I invested into the game but the repetition of running into an instance, grinding some currency, to get a generic piece of armor and then the next expansion being that same thing was really annoying after a while. However, it isn't has focused on a PvP server. You don't spend near as much time instance grinding if they have open world PvP in tact.

I'd much prefer the countdown to AE and huge messages popping up on the screen telling me I have curse X on me run to the spot we marked on your map

Didn't think about that... that is an awesome suggestion. I immediately thought of the scarecrows in Antonica. I hated when they deflated them.

Anyone interested in doing some practice runs on that grind game?

Are there any Mage pet equivalents for EQ2 Progression?

I might be interested (After I hit 50 on lockjaw that is)... when the game first came out most of the damage tables were normalized. Who knows if they've backed up any of that server code though.

I played EQ2 since beta and i never minded the piano style combat, i enjoy it still more than i do WoW. I also liked the AA system in EQ2 - Its the devs, shitty content, shitty curse cure, shitty spam cure, shitty loot, and shitty ass Xelgad that ruined the game for me. In all honesty EQ2s content is in beta up until its 2 xpacs old.

EQ2 progression makes a hell of a lot more sense than EQ1 progression. Though I can't wait for people to get stuck on Sentinel's Fate and DoV2 :p

Didn't they just revamp how stamina is calculated, though? And if I recall most of the original loot on mobs was boosted in stats early EoF, so that would have to be reverted as well.
If they can overcome the fact that players have metric ass tons of HP compared to older EQ2 and make content not really trivialized, it'll be a hit.

WTB EoF era emulator though.
