I'm with you. My laptop is native 1920 x 1080 and the resolution I have to play in is 1440 x 900 just to get 25 fps. Doesn't matter, love the game. The gunplay is excellent and I could wander around getting in fights all day.

So after getting murdered by fucking Bloatflies for 10 minutes straight while looking for tatos (I screwed up bad with an untimely quicksave), those dmg reduction perks in the End line started looking really good. Can anyone explain why then End is a junk stat? Serious question.

I took one rank of toughness last night and cleared an area of raiders with dogmeat On survival. Had to reload about 10 times from dying but I like the challenge. I had to make sure to use the cover system (move up to a corner or object until you lower your gun. Aim down the sights and you will lean out to shoot).
One rank of toughness and one rank of sneak really helped. You still get spotted but you can get a little closer to get a good shot.

Yeah just get an nvidia 970 or 980 and you'll be fine. Might get yourself like 16gb of ram. Ram is cheap.

Also it's reported that lone wanderer works with dogmeat, which is a pretty huge + for dogmeat which entirely offsets his "can't use with companions" negative. It also makes intuitive sense because of mad max (being a loner + using a dog).
However I feel compelled to constantly use companions until I get the perks for them (and possibly unlock personal stories for them??). With the expected number of companions I feel like I'll be using them indefinitely and only go back to dogmeat late-game.
If my predictions on companions are wrong don't tell me.

+1 for 970, it's what I use and runs FO4 at 60FPS with dograys to medium.
Note that if you have to choose between a lower and higher amount of memory on the card, go higher if you care about modding.

Ya, I don't know how much an R9-290 or whatever costs now but I'm using one with a similar build as you Gerbil and it runs it on Ultra perfectly fine. Turned Shadows down to Medium though and having little to no frame rate stuttering thus far.
As for the game, can't believe I've never played the series before. I absolutely love it, unabashedly

Survival isn't really difficult. Its faux difficulty. The curve is steeper at the front. You get over the initial hump by focusing on a single weapon perk to like skill lvl 3 and get to like lvl 8 or 10 and you'll find that its actually not that challenging.

Fallout is one of those games where difficulty is relative. If you dont savescum, doorscum or any other scum, and play within the "boundries" of combat you can find yourself being challenged.
What type of character you create and level is also a factor, as some builds are easier than others. But if you want to semi cheese it up or are a min max nutcase with ocd you can make the game trivial in a hurry.
