Yeah Obsidian seems quite happy with having the gaming community fund their next projects instead of some corrupt publisher.

The graphics aren't fantastic, but anyone that thinks they look like (unmodded) Fallout 3 is literally delusional.
They look like unmodded Skyrim, and not even remotely in the ballpark of Witcher 3. Seeing a dog with a plain old normal mapped texture is pretty jarring when you're used to HairWorks/TressFX too. That's to be expected though, it's not like they were going to make a new engine for Fallout. The earliest that's going to happen is TES6, assuming they don't pull the same shit they did with Skyrim again and just polish up Gamebryo.

Yeah this just looks like another upgraded Gamebryo with some new lighting - the terrible models and animations are still there.

Is there more to the story than "Obsidian gets $X more if it hits Y score, game doesn't quite hit Y score"? Because there's no corruption in that sentence.
Not sure, but tying their bonus to review aggregate site that doesn't even disclose how it weights each review is retarded. Instead of just tying it to how many copies it sold or something.

Bethesda won't be making a new engine for anything ever. They've been using Gamebryo since fucking MORROWIND.

At best they'll buy something from someone else to use, and that will be the cheapest thing they can find that does what they need it to do, at best.

So did fucking GTA 5. Even Skyrim looked decent at the time. Also this is not Stylized graphics like Borderlands was doing with its comic book style.People need to stop with that excuse.

When people say graphics don't matter on a new game that isn't some indie throwback, I want to punch them in the face...
Graphics don't matter to me.

Am I triggering you? Probably some tiny little baby man in real life with 3 fingers and a crooked dick anyways

The graphics looked ok to me. Improved over the other games but not revolutionary. Otherwise there is nothing to get excited about from that trailer other than "oh cool there is a new FallOut coming soon".

I hope they can distinguish it enough from the previous games to make it it's own. These truly open world games that aren't just linear hand holds (Witcher / DAI) through a world come so rarely that I'll gladly take even a decent refresh. If you get "overwhelmed" by an open world game with options you should consider turning in your gamer card.

Or maybe we just prefer somewhat linear games that focus on story above all else?

The thing that makes no sense to me is that Zenimax owns both Bethesda and id, yet Bethesda keeps recycling the same shitty engine over and over instead of getting the people who specialize in making engines to do it for them.

I mentioned that they could be using scalable assets for mobile deployment at some point and you guys mentioning gamebryo actually clicked what that FO4 trailer reminded me of...

...I haven't worked with it but I'm curious if anyone else is reminded of the new Unity 5 Engine!:

If they are using unity, then yeah they're definitely looking to restrain assets for mobile platforms down the line.

Agree with some criticisms raised here and some positives.

But, it is Fallout. Due to Fallout 1-2 being among the first games I would think of as all time favorites, it is a series that I will buy day one. Even though I had some complaints on both Fallout 3 and NV, they are still god tier status in terms of FPS games.

Just like I would buy a new TES game even though it was "oh look, sort of similar to the others in a fantasy setting", I will buy a new Fallout in a "oh look, sort of similar to the others in a wasteland setting".

In the year this game releases, it is close to unrealistic that it will have a contender to Best FPS of that year.*

(*The new Deus Ex is the only one I can think of if they release in the same year)

Well some games need to be more open, and less Director driven. Skyrim etc fit in that boat.

I prefer the later like a Witcher 3 with less options, and more storytelling, but I can't hate on people who want to just have a sandbox to mess around in.

Hah never. They will design one new tool within the system and say it's an entirely new engine like they always do.

Gamebryo for life.

But let's tweak the animation system and wallah, new Engine called "THE CREATION ENGINE"

(With Gamebryo everywhere when you look in the folder after install)

Didn't realize Unity was capable of that now. Damn.

I hear with UE4 you don't even need to be able to program anymore. Wonder if Unity will manage that eventually?

Stating facts about Bethesda's incompetence and laziness isn't negativity.

Its just an unfortunate reality.

I'll still preorder Fallout 4, and play it through 15 or 20 times.

Its a sick addiction.
